I should appreciate any opinions regarding these hips. They belong to a 6 - month old female.
I think they look really bad.
Do you think this bitch could have a normal life or that some kind of surgery is required?
Breeding is definately out of the question....
Thanks.

Hips from this x-ray in my opinion are "D" in FCI terminology, and like "mittlere Huftgelenkdysplasie" in SV, but i have seen in my experience moore bad x-rays, shepherd with those hips Dog can live few years without problems. Bad news is age of this female, when at 6 month hips look like this, after 1 Year can be sometimes really poor.
"Cetyl M" can help for better hips building.
Interesting father, and mother line this female.

I think you're jumping to bad conclusions based on one of the worst xrays I've seen lately. I can't see the knees but I can guess from the angle of the femoral heads that the knees are positioned improperly as well.
Honestly, I HATE having prelims done that early because puppies are loose jointed. That's just how puppies are. Then, you get vets trying to surmise what kind of life a dog will have based on subluxated hips and poor positioning. It's a recipe for disaster.
A 6month old female may be just around the corner from her first heat cycle, too, making the hips even more subluxated.
My opinion is to wait a few months, swim her often if you can, make sure she is nowhere near her heat cycle, and then take her to a vet who can xray hips. Please, please, for the love of God, do not spay this poor bitch yet.

Thanks Jenny for your input. I could see that the positioning is bad but I did not think it was that bad.
In any case, my vet suggested re-examination in 3-4 months and some supplements to help.
Thanks again!

do you have a swimming pool or lake available? swim your pup as often as possible and do not do any forced jogging or bike rides with her. take your pup to a sandy area and let her walk in the sand, the softer sand the better.
wait until 2 months after her 1st heat and re do the xrays and this time have a vet that knows what he/she's doing.
good luck!
