So I am planning to import a bitch in whelp. It is a big move and a big investment. Does anyone have any idea what I should look out for like the ideal safe age she can travel and how she will cope up with me. Thanks CD

I've done this twice. The first one was 5 weeks pregnant when I flew over and picked her up. She had 13 puppies. The second was 2 weeks along when a friend picked her up for me. She had no puppies. Both females took to me no problem. I would recommend waiting until 5 weeks. That is what my fertility vet recommends. I would have waited until then on the second female had the people in Germany been willing to wait. Good luck

agree with the above post.  wait till pups are half formed otherwise the dam may assimilate or abort.  even so, it is still no guarantee.  its risky importing in welp.  just so you know.

I imported on in whelp......she was 30 days along, had pregnancy confirmed via ultra sound. She aborted the litter 2 weeks after arrival and came down with a pyometra too boot! Vickie www.PowerHausKennels.com

Also I wouldn't wait until too far in the pregnancy. We had a female here for breeding many years ago and the owner insisted that she be shipped the week before she was due to whelp, instead of waiting until afterwards as we planned and begged him to wait. Legally it was his bitch and we sent her.
She aborted the litter a couple of days later and we found out later that the bitch died as well. Bad situation.

the market is very soft for puppies right now, make sure you have some buyers lined up or you may end up with a whole pack of half grown adults before you're able to get rid of them.

I wouldn't recommend ultrasounding to confirm pregnancy. My fertility vet believes only ultrasound if there is a problem because ultrasounds themselves can be dangerous and lead to the loss of some or all of the puppies.
