Two of my dogs like totally different reward type toys.  One likes a tug best, the other likes the ball on a rope best.  I've tried transitioning to one kind but neither are willing to give up their favorite.  They will both work for their non-favorite but not as animated.    Of course both love food reward.......

What is your dogs favorite reward?

Ball on the rope is my favorite, it is also my dogs.  However, my dogs will work for what ever I offer ball, kong or tug.  I have different rewards for different activities; for OB I use a ball, for detection work I use a tug.

Ball on a rope or kong on a rope. We start all the puppies with ball on a rope and I haven't heard any complaints yet :)

Anubis likes the ball the best,  and he'll search through anything to find it, get it, and bring it back.  He'd prefer the ball over anything for a reward though in OB or whatever we're doing at the time.

Arnold the cat, no not really :)   fav is ball on a rope, but in a pinch a leather tug will do.
Always,

>  My PSD "Grizzly" likes the giant Kong. I have a black and red one. For some unknown reason he prefers the red over the black? Hmmmmmmmmm.

The guordo's nice in that it has enough heft to throw, and is ergonomically designed to work well as a tug while offering the handler some grip.  I like it over the ball-rope or kong-rope combination.

The squareball can really get some good momentum on a bounce or roll, better than a ball I think, when it impacts on those corners. Easy to grip once it's been slimed, too, or just put one finger in the hole and fling it.

The hurley works well as a tug or retrieve item also, designed to float. It's pretty flexible, and fun to roll it end-over-end for the chase for a really good distance.
