Two Moons

The topic of cloning has been discussed a time or two, how about geneticly engineered animals? Case in point he recent debate over Salmon. many countries will not allow the import of our geneticly altered grains, we already have geneticly altered animals in our meat supply. What do you think?

Forgive me any spelling mistakes, the eyes are going faster than my mind and I have no spell check.

I don't want it. And just wait and see, they'll escape somehow and take over the natural wild salmon because man always, always screws something up, eventually.

The genetically engineered salmon is supposed to grow twice the size of its natural counterpart. And what else it does, I don't know.

They crossed 2 different types of Salmon and and a eel that has a high metabolism rate to produce this salmon a fast growing larger fish to use as a food source.  With all the crap that gets dumped in our environment we don,t know about this fish doesn't bother me. It,s what I don,t hear about that makes me take pause.

Hell we genetically engineer ever time we breed a litter.

No, Breeding involves a natural process. The PBS show about origins of man got into DNA and how things mutate naturally.. Man is changing things he still doesn't understand... it's a grand experiment but in my opinion very dangerous. They do claim these salmon are strile but admit a percentage are not... Yes it would be another invasive species if they got loose in the oceans. The initial lab is not even in this country.. Panama I believe, much differnet oversites. And then you have the FDA...... They even need to approve labeling geneticly engineered products hell yes they better label them. Moons.

I,ll agree they should be labeled natural or not, but just think about everything you eat that has been shot up with steroids, antibotics, wormers, you name it... oh to eat like a cave man again.

I am a little ignorant on the topic but it DOES scare me! I am really hesitant to buy meat from the store!  I bought some beef from walmart when I was in a pinch and didn't end up needing it after all.  I left it in the fridge and wanted to see how long it would take to turn gray(go bad).....I threw it away after 2 weeks and it was still red like it had just been butchered!  We have butchered our own beef for about the last 10 years.

Bob, yeah great point, goes back to our governments oversite of the food supply... say bad egg. Ok, lets say we design a super dog, every trait one could desire. Color, size, health, the whole nine yards, it this a good idea? Tea cup GSD's, Terriers the size of Great Danes. Another thought, since nature does it's own mutating, what kind of mutations could we expect from a geneticly altered dog in it's offspring. I didn't even like cloning as a method of reproducing an animal.

Vickie, What I hate about Walmart is the meat is labeled that it may come from usa canada or mexico, but not which one. and the pre packed frozen patties say only distributed by wally work yada yada yada... They scare me too.... last batch of ground beef had razor sharp bone fragments in it. it was not ground with the meat itself but added as filler. Shrimp form china.... filthiest water in the world..great products. Our genes mutate, maybe eating engineered foods would not effect that, but common sense tells me it will. That was a good program that got into the workings of DNA and the mysteries we still do not understand. And we have plenty of invasive species destroying natural habitats and species. I would not want a super dog either.... I like then as they are. Moons.

I refuse to eat Wal-Mart Beef or Pork. I also buy farm raised beef and hog from my local farmers and get it butchered locally.

They have been doing selective breeding with chickens for years to get more white meat and bigger breasts...breast...breastes...is it cingular or plural?
