A vet give a 34kgs GSD Cephalexin 2000mg per day for 3 months. Is it overdose ?What is side effect?

Did the vet recommend taking this 4 times per day, 500mg 4 times per day??  That is a the correct human dose but I would wonder what for and why so long?  How much does the dog weigh?  For some things such as UTI's and some sort of internal infection it does take quite a long time but for 3 months seems a little extended??  I would also question this,  call another vet's office or get a second opinion.  Has this infection been going on long?  Also I would definitely get a culture and do a sensitivity to whatever infection the dog has got if possible as what if it is NOT the right antibiotic to clear up this particular infection.  Good luck   Nan

For an adult GSD, the correct dosage of cephalexin is 1000 mg given orally twice daily.  This could be for a UTI or for staph pyoderma. Yes, 3 months is a long time without a C& S.
