Does anyone know why?

OGBS

From Danny Spreitler's resignation letter as the President of the WDA. (GSDCA purposely omitted)

"The GSDCA-WDA can never fully realize its place for the breed as long as it falls under the realm of the GSDCA. And fall it does. The GSDCA holds the seat in the WUSV and controls the flow of judges, events and all paperwork. The GSDCA-WDA relationship is built around the fact that the GSDCA wants to maintain the seat in the WUSV and the GSDCA-WDA is the only way to keep it. For years, the SV and WUSV have been misled by the GSDCA WUSV Liaison, Dr. David Landau, regarding the relationship between the GSDCA and the GSDCA-WDA. Wolfgang Henke, President of the SV, made reference to this deceit while speaking to the membership at the 2009 North American Sieger Show. The written agreement between the GSDCA and the GSDCA-WDA was demanded by the SV once they learned of the true depth of the deceit. The deceit continues as the membership numbers reported to the WUSV are inflated. GSDCA is not the largest German Shepherd organization in the United States. One only has to look at the last issue of the GSDCA Review to validate the membership numbers. One day soon the lies must stop. The GSDCA will never adhere to the world standard of the German Shepherd. Never will the German Shepherd be a working breed in the GSDCA. In all honesty, in the United States there are two breeds of German Shepherd - the world standard and the GSDCA standard."

That still does not tell us why?   That letter made no sense.  I have known Heidi and David Landau and have spoken to Heidi several times in past years concerning my pups out of Orthos and Anika  which Heidi bred.

I have watched DR. David for years, read article of his in many dog books and have watched him judge at several trials and many years of service in the breed.  I have utmost respect for him and regard. This does not make sense that some kind of deceit is being thrown out in a letter from Danny Sp.?

I would like to hear what Dr. Landau has to say.

I am like the poster , was he ask to resign or is this a rumour?

He judged a trial I was at, and he was actually very fair, very correct in his judging and tough.  Nothing was given because it was a club trial, he seemed like a decent person, but I know how politics can be.  I'd trial under him again I guess, unless I find out he's done something outlandish and makes me think othewise.

One thing I've learned in my years in dogs is that people like to talk and blow things out of proportion, when all we should be doing is training, having fun and breeding good dogs.

I know that Danny was disappointed with the type of dog that the parent organization; the G.S.D.C.A. continued to promote - the A.K.C. interpretation of the GSD.

It really matters not how large is either the A.K.C. or the G.S.D.C.A. - for in the end our S.V. is the ONLY game in town regarding the conformation and performance standard - they set their rules. The S.V. knows the "American" type of dog does not conform to the F.C.I. standard as well as that one interpreted by the S.V.. I know some of us have issues with the S.V. standard when misapplied - that is for a different discussion.

I am purely speaking my opinion here! I think Dr. Landau held an intimidating position merely because of his academic title. I think we can all relate to someone who has accomplished such an academic feat and uses this title to get their way. During the occassional difference of opinion in the engineering world I have heard "But the man is a PhD." So what? He could very well be wrong. It takes much more than an academic title to gain my professional respect.

Many people respect Dr. Landau - no argument there. There is nothing wrong with respect! I think we all know that our Stateside GSD will never be the dog he was meant to be until the A.K.C. and the G.S.D.C.A. decide to pay more attention - not just lip service - to the S.V.. And, I think the S.V. needs to pay more attention to the F.C.I. standard - but again that is for a different discussion.

In the end; what do I expect? I expect that some of the people who have long waited in the wings for the departure of Dr. Landau will now step forward and take the G.S.D.C.A. a step closer to what it should have been all along.

Best Regards,
Bob-O

Did he resign from GSDCA? Or, are you referencing his stepping down from his position in the WUSV?

by bgstout on 24 September 2010 - 03:09

In reference to the WUSV.  OGBS thanks for the info.

Landau did not resign from any organization.  He did not run for a second 4 year term for WUSV Board of Directors. His 4 year term is up at the end of this year, 2010.  He nominated Mr. Hussein with the Pakistan club and Mr. Hussein was elected unanimously to the WUSV Board for the 4 year term starting with 2011. Landau is still on committees at GSDCA and GSDCA-WDA.
