The voting had been pushed back, and now this week, The San Francisco Animal Control Commission may ask the city's Board of Supervisors to ban the retail sale of all animals. This includes dogs, cats, hamsters, bunnies, snakes, everything except fish. The head of Animal Control wants to see it happen. Apparently here aren't many pet shops in San Francisco that sell dogs or cats, but there are many that sell small animals. If this passes, will it encourage other cities to do this as well?
The link from Animal Law Coalition (clearly a biased source, but gives the info) talks about other places where such bans have gone into effect, including Albuquerque NM, where retails sales are banned, roadside/public place is banned, and spay/neuter is the law for dogs 6 months and older, They say their adoption rates have increase 23%.
Can you see it now "Mom, can we get a guinie pig?" "No, sorry honey, there's a ban on selling them in our city."
What do you think will happen?
