I had forgotten how completely satisfying the simple act of walking on the beach with my dog can be.
I haven't had a leash on her since we got down here, there are dogs everywhere off leash enjoying themselves (labs mostly!) and small kids and we have gone down a couple of times already to get in runs on the beach.
People have been coming up raving about her obedience and I'm just so proud of my girl but what really took the cake happened yesterday.
As you all know I have one of those 'killer Czech' dogs in my bitch, well yesterday as I was talking to someone I happened to glance back and there she is, platz about a foot away from me with this tiny (about 9 month old girl) small person who has come up. Hanni had deliberately platzed herself ( something I've always taught her is that when she is approached by a stranger -and I'm with her- she is to sit quietly at my side or platz if it's a child ) and so she had platzed herself and this little one was patting her between the ears.
My dog was absolutely in heaven, she loves children and this small girl wouldn't have been able to reach her head if she'd been sitting.
We platzed and stood there for a couple minutes, the people I was talking with utterly amazed that she was a German Shepherd, let alone so sweet and eventually a parent came to retrieve the small child. Hanni was then in absolute heaven as she got treated like a queen by everyone around her. I swear she made off with more dog treats and snuggles than she's seen in her life time.
Good girl!
