Krazy Bout K9s

by Krazy Bout K9s on 18 September 2010 - 17:09

Does anyone recognize this dog? He is in a Utah Shelter, due to come up here to Montana...I have not seen a LC Sable before...pretty rare??? So does anyone know who the breeder may be...he has been evaluated and will need to go to an experienced GSD owner, he is available if anyone wants him too...let me know,
Thanks, Steph
Montana GSD & Belgian Malinois Rescue

Here is the evaluation done on him by a gal that has owned GSD's:

***gave me your email. She tells me that you are willing to take our wonderful boy and I can't thank you enough. Our Utah gsd rescue closed down nearly 5 years ago. ...
I believe "Prince", approximately 3 yrs old, that's what the shelter named him, has the makings of a great companion dog. I spent 2 hours doing the first temperment assessment the day after I had spent 4 hours grooming him.  I wanted to be sure that I didn't stick you with anything unexpected so today I checked for animal aggression and food aggression again. We had him meet three dogs of different size, excitability, and gender. He was even charged by a male pomeranian. He was friendly with all of them. I pushed the food evaluation to the point where I had him eating cat food off my fingers--no food aggression either. The only situation I didn't feel I was able to evaluate enough was his reaction to children. Thankfully, today we had a four year old girl in the lobby dancing, and singing about 4 feet away from him. He glanced at her with curiosity then turned his attention to other things. He showed no tense posture, prey positions, or anything worrying.
His only issue is that once he feels he has established a perimeter(if we stop in one spot for a while, for example) he will bark and lunge at strangers who approach. He stops immediately when corrected. If he approaches he is sweet and friendly. I believe it is just a socialization issue and understanding when it is appropriate to be protective and when it isn't. The shelter, however, will not adopt him out with this behavior and he was on the list for euthenasia this week.

Wow, pretty boy!  I had a LC sable, don't see too many, but they sure are lookers.  Hope you find the breeder or a great home for this beautiful boy.  Or you might get hooked yourself?

Steph,

He is exquisite!

I do not believe he is a long coat.  He has no feathering.  He is plush and luxurious.  He probably carries the long coat gene.  I am sure others more knowledgable will weigh in on whether he is or not.

He reminds me of Puck Grafental a little bit.

Grafental lines do have some LC/plush sables.  There was a breeder in Ontario that had a Grafental bitch, my boy's grandmother.  I can't for the life of me remember her kennel name, it'll drive me crazy.  Do you have any idea how old he is?  His age could be a starting point.

I hope you can find him a great home.....Thank God we are not closer to you, or my daughter would want him....If this is the longest his coat gets, I wouldn't consider him a coat either...I have seen much longer plushier coats than what he appears to have in these pictures.....I guess its really just a matter of opinion as to what a person considers a coat or not.....Unless of course there is the obvious....JMO

His age is in the first post, but I will repeat it here. Approximately 3 yrs old...and not fixed yet. He was a stray...

Sorry Steph, missed his age.  The breeder that I'm thinking of would have had a litter around that time.  The only thing I can remember is her name was Syndi (not sure of the spelling, but it did start with an "S".  Let me do some searching and I'll try to find more info.  I know it's a shot in the dark, but you just never know.
