I do hope this treatment becomes more wide-spread and available. It could really help a lot of dogs....

In the U.S., stem cell injections are not yet legal for human beings.  I am hoping for them, as I can not use my right side due to multiple strokes,

It would help so many people, those with MS, Parkinsons, and spinal cord injures, and more.  I don't know exactly why stem cell injections are not legal in the US... the research is legal though?  So unfortunate.  Obama lifted the ban on federal funding for stem cell research, but it's still illegal to use?  Not all stem cells are embryonic but I wouldn't care either way, I'm pro-choice.

stem cell injections are not yet legal for human beings??

4 Years ago, the son of man I worked with was on his bicycle and what hit by a car. His head hit the concrete very hard. The ambulance driver drove past 3 other hospitals, and the boy ended up at Herman Hospital - Houston TX. The boy went down hill VERY quickly and before long he was "legally dead". Massive brain injury.

The doctors there had just been approved to do a Stem Cell research project, and this boy was a perfect candidate. He was their first experimental subject. They took a bunch of bone marrow from his pelvis and thigh bones and sent it off for refining into just stem cells. The stuff was injected back into him through his IV.

At first - nothing. Then after a week he semi-woke up. Then he woke up completely then he was able to move his toes and then he could move even more. Then he started to remember stuff and then he was walking and then he was in rehab and then he was out of the hospital - all within a month of the stem cell injection. He made a 90% recovery. He used to be the best in athletics, but now he's average. He used to be a straight A student  and now he works to makes B's.

There was a study on Parkinsons.  When they injected the stem cells, the results were catastrophic and permanent.  A living hell.  That was the end of that study.

Embryonic stem cells can turn into anything and can be unpredictable.

There is great success with various adult stem cells, such as bone marrow etc.

Nice to see that he's back up and going.

There were a few comments to that story that mentioned "right wing" people objecting to this type of thing.  I believe that most of the objection to the use of stem cells comes specifically from the use of embryonic stem cells and not the use of stem cells in general.

If science can use stem cells that exist already in the body, and not have to terminate a life to obtain them, then I am personally all for it.  Otherwise, not so much.

Dasty's stem cells came from his own belly fat...

My dog had Stem cell on her right hip 3 mos ago.  I have not seen miraculous results as in this story but have noticed a slight improvement in the dog.  She may need to be reinjected, she goes for her followup this month.  My hope was to minimally reduce the increase in arthritis in that hip as she ages.  She is now 8.  She really wants to work, but I am afraid of her reinjuring herself as she does everything 110% and does not take care of herself, so I need to be the voice of reason for her.
