My dog is eating Canidae ALS and seems to be doing pretty good. His stool is runny from time to time but other than that he seems to be pretty healthy. My brother owns my dogs brother and he is on TOTW. His coat seems to be a little shiner and his body maybe Little thicker but not in an over weight kind of way. I googled Canidae vs. TOTW and it led me to this site to a previous forum on this topic. I was very pleased with all the info I read so I decided to sign in!!  I would like to find a food that hasn't had all the previous recalls and lawsuits. Unfortunately with 4 kids price is an issue. The ALS is around $50 for 44 pounds. TOTW is the same but 30pounds. I'm not sold on changing but a smaller company, better quality control, grain free etc. would be nice. Any recommendations on a dog food around the same price as TOTW would be greatly appreciated!!!

FEED RAW   and you will not have to worry any longer about buying a commercial dog food that lies on the cover of the bag.

TOTW is the best value grain free food. Evo, Orijen, Avaya, Barking at the Moon are all great but more expensive than TOTW. If I am not mistaken Instinct and Go! Natural are grain free as well, not sure on price. I have 4 dogs on TOTW, 1 on Fromm (switching her when her bag is gone) and 1 on Orijen. Very happy with TOTW. I pay $39 for a 30 pound bag at my local feed store, call around for price checks, you may be surprised.

I use the holistic and lassie from     www.sunshinemills.com

and I use  Chicken and Brown Rice Formula for Large breed by  Blue Buffalo.

Hope this helps a bit:

TOTW is a very good grain free food. IF you have a Tractor Supply Company close by you...it is around $39.99 a bag there.
Another food you could try is called Natures Domain. It is a grain free food and the ingredience are almost identical to TOTW. It is sold only at some Costco's. They have a Salmon formula and I think I saw a new Turkey formula. It is $29.99 for 35 pounds at Costco.
Here are the ingredience for the Natures Domain....
Salmon meal, sweet potatoes, peas, potatoes, canola oil, potato protein, potato fiber, natural flavor, flaxseed, ocean fish meal, salt, choline chloride, dried chicory root, tomatoes, blueberries, raspberries, yucca schidigera extract, dried Enterococcus faecium fermentation product, dried Lactobacillus acidophilus fermentation product, dried Lactobacillus casei fermentation product, dried Lactobacillus plantarum fermentation product, dried Trichoderma longibrachiatum fermentation extract, vitamin E supplement, iron proteinate, zinc proteinate, copper proteinate, ferrous sulfate, zinc sulfate, copper sulfate, potassium iodide, thiamine mononitrate (vitamin B1), manganese proteinate, manganous oxide, ascorbic acid, vitamin A supplement, biotin, calcium pantothenate, manganese sulfate, sodium selenite, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), vitamin B12 supplement, riboflavin (vitamin B2), vitamin D supplement, folic acid.

Around my area TOTW is about $46 per bag, and that includes at Tractor Supply.   I used it for a long time until my dogs started getting gassy, something not normal for them.  I have switched to Acana and they are doing great.  They also get raw a few nights a week.

SuperPetz has just started carrying TOTW, too.  $2.00 more per bag than Tractor Supply, but depending on how far you'd have to drive, might make a difference.  Of course I'd check with my local SPetz first to make sure they have it.   The one near me just started carrying it this summer.

Recover, which Canidae formula are you feeding? They're all ALS. I like the grain free one very much.

Like Jyl said, Costco's new one is very good, too. I bought it for when I moved and didn't have my chest freezer running yet and was pleasantly shocked at how great all my dogs did on it. Raw is best, but if you're going grain free, you can't beat it for the price.
