anyone have a dog that will destroy a bag of kingsford?
he doesnt really eat it just destroys it
im sure he ingests a little just by the nature of how he plays
but i was curios if maybe it had value he knew about
he is raw fed mostly ckicken backs, pork necks, liver(beef and chicken)
but no supplemets(vitamins)
he has done this for a while so i think no adverse effects
just thought i would start a topic

Well...your dog isn't getting enough muscle meat....don't know if that has anything to do with it!

sorry
i forgot to put chicken quarters, and ground beef.
the backs are very meaty and also gizzard and liver meat still attached
i do think it is something of that nature just probably not muscle meat
i really dont measure the percentages of each but he gets 2-3 pounds a day
mostly quarters and backs
every other day he gets either hamburger(1 pound)or pork necks(1 pound)
thanks for the reply

Hi Buckeyefan, Maybe he's trying to tell you to put on a steak for him too...lol I would try to keep him out of the charcoal though, you never know whats been added to it in the way of petroleum products. Isabelle's bad about chewing up stuff sometimes too. Maybe something to it maybe not.... She finally took to swimming on her own, without being coaxed in, good thing too, the waters already getting cold. She has taken to barking all night now, cool weather has all the critters stirring about. I'm still having problems loading pages here so I'm gonna go. Best wishes to you and yours, Moons.

Buckeye, I too would be concerned about any additives in the charcoal. But you say he's not eating it,  just destroying it.  The only craving that I can think of for charcoal is that it can settle the stomach, but since he's not actually wanting to eat it, I guess it's just something to get into & play with??

well activated charcoal readily binds to a good number of toxic substances, which prevents them from being absorbed into the body... Maybe your pup doesn't see a difference in regular cooking coals  and just wants to keep some readily accessible just in case : P

thanks for the answers
i think he just sees it as something differentto play with
i keep it inside but if i forget and leave it out he will get it pretty quickly
i just thought it was weird that he doesnt try to get the old coals in the grill
that didnt burn all the way ,even though they have grease or fat on them

My puppy ate my glasses the other day and I'm fairly sure they had no nutritive value whasoever.

LOL VM!! They are lacking salt in their diet, and tasted the dried sweat on the frames...no, really!

My dogs LOVE charcoal, even though we try to keep it put away there have been a couple of times they have torn up a bag.
One day when Matt was about to grill a special dinner for us, he walked in the house for a fork (literally 5 seconds at the longest) and he left a 2 AWESOME (an expensive)  steaks and jumbo shrimp kabobs (also very expensive) next to the grill on a plate.
What do you think happened to our dinner? Hmmm... .
