I don't want to give my opinion yet. I want to see what you all think first.

By the looks, the left hip should be "seated" in the socket further.

The left leg needs to be pulled out more which would make the hip deeper seated. I think they are good.

The positioning is much better that I usually see - give the veterinarian my regards. I do not see a large amount of socket coverage; hence my estimate is O.F.A. "Fair" or S.V. fast Normal. Both are passing scores.

Fair; I would like to see the sockets deeper.

Nice positioning.
Shallow sockets, the coverage is not great, hips could be tighter OFA fair or SV fast normal
Or OFA Mild if they're having a bad day up there. The right side looks fairly ok but if you look closely, there may be a bit of remodeling on the left femoral head and neck and could be a tiny bone spur there also. Possibly a bit of remodeling starting on the socket of that side also. Of course that could also just be looking at the film on the screen and that I can't see too.

Wow, mobjack, bone spur? I don't think the quality of the pic is even good enough to tell that. I don't think the hips are that lax, I think the sockets are just not that deep.
I agree w/Bob-O- the dog does not have the deepest sockets I've ever seen, but they are congruent and I think he should go fair.
I also agree w/K9queen about the left knee; if you picture it where it should be, the hip looks just like the other side. Nice call.
Thanks, all. Keep 'em coming.
Not my dog; just a pet and these are old xrays; I'd be curious to see what his hips look like today.
FYI- dog was totally out for a dental procedure which is the only reason they had him xrayed at all- figured might as well since half the expense was already done. I prefer no anesthesia; you can tell a lot more about true laxity, IMO.

LOL Jenni!
I said I can't see for crap!
I actually break out my thingamabob magnifier for stamps and such to look at xray pics and won't comment on them very often. So yeah, there might be a tiny spur and some very minor signs of remodeling or it could just be the film. And, I only notice it on the left side where Queen caught the slightly turned knee. For full out anesthesia, those are nice tight hips. No or mild sedation and they'd be even tighter. The shallow sockets are what IMHO would bump him to a fair. I'd be interested to see how they look now too.

Actually IMO there is remodeling in the femur heads, thickening in the necks - sockets could be deeper - for the depth of the sockets, the hips are seated as deeply as they can be, so that is good. But I'd like the femur heads to be rounder, cleaner, and less rough-looking. I see "edges" and flattening that IMO isn't what you want to see.
I'd be worried if this were my dog, that these hips would not pass. However, because they are seated ok, probably this dog wouldn't have any problems until later in life (normal arthritis)
