Thank you for pointing out how those in moral authority (and I use the term loosely) can manipulate those that have the REAL power! The priest was guilty of molesting altar boys and the nuns, the targets of the "lesson", had the goods on him. He was intimidating them into keeping his secret. Amazing what can be gleaned when taking things out of context!

Ironically, another Meryl Streep movie was taken out of context and plastered all over our municipal trash receptacles. A former Mayor, whose name was Sophie, decided on a wonderful slogan for cleaning up our fair city. Her slogan was "Sophie's Choice". She, as well as any others running the city, apparently never watched that movie either!

*Rooka, it sounded like I was slamming you, but I wasn't.  I was slamming the person that made the video.  Just wanted to add that!  It seems like a wonderful lesson when taken out of context, but one wouldn't know if you haven't seen the movie.  It does go to show how those in authority make points for a reason, especially when the reasons aren't honorable.

I believe that the priest was not guilty in this film.  I believe the point of this movie was to point out that you best be careful when throwing stones.   It leaves the decision of guilty or innocent in the minds of the movie viewer.   In the end Meryl Streep's character states that she has "doubts" about what she accused him of.    Regaurdless, this clip was posted specifically for the words held in the speech itself, seperate from the plot of the movie it was made in.  I thought it was pretty fitting considering all the accusations flying around this board lately.

I will have to watch it again GSDtravels.  I will see if I view it differently after your discussion.  I will get back to you :)

Good enough and good points!  I only saw it once, but thought the evidence was pretty convincing, I'll have to watch it again myself!

The story about "Sophie's Choice" is true, sadly enough!  And that one can only be taken one way.

How's the puppy hunt coming along?

Good!  I think i found a breeder in Atlanta, we have been talking and she sounds like she has all the right stuff!  She is a really nice lady and is open to answer all the questions I have.  She will have a litter born in october and they should be ready in December which is a good time for us!  So excited I have the worst case of puppy fever :P

The priest in this film was absolutely guilty.  Streep was great in this film, and she was just scathing.  But in this time period, and maybe even now still, it was patriarchal, and her thoughts did not matter.  I think he was guilty and she was right, a woman's intuition is always right.  I love Philip Seymour Hoffman, by the way.

Doberdoodle said, " a woman's intuition is always right". I believe this too. Don't ignore it ladies!

I'm happy for you Rooka, how can you stand the wait?  I hope your new baby will be everything you want and more.  I know how much you miss Rooka, I also know how hard it is.  I also know how healing puppy breath can be, it's the balm of the soul.  Can't wait to see pics!

Oh I am TOTALLY down with the women's intuition comment!  Hips T**s Lips Power! LOL

AND YES, the wait is about killing me!  Puppy fever is a tough thing to take, hard not to run out and snag a pup right now.   But, the timing has to be right for us and the pups.  Want to be able to properly introduce her (getting a girl) into our lives.

Anywho, back to the movie :

Another important point I got from the movie is that Meryl's character (right or wrong) fervently believed what she was doing was right, and good.  Her intentions were of the best and done in the defense of innocents, whether the threat was real or percieved.  I see that a lot here too.  Now when it come to the safety of a child ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS err on the side of caution, but I still am not sure Hoffman character was guilty....

AS I said, I will watch it again, I actually went into the film thinking, oh great another trash the Catholics / Relious flick.  I was surprised I felt him not guilty in the end.  It was Meryl's "doubt" that sealed it for me.  BUT, you are right GSDTravels, people in positions of power and influence can turn believer into a doubter, maybe even of one's self...kinda like bullies... have we seen any examples of that lately?...lol

As I said, I will watch it agin, I still believe they left the innocent, or guilt up to interpritation.  We will see if this changes after the next viewing...

The moral of the story is men are nasty evil creatures and women are godesses.  Men start wars, men are just evil.  How else can you justify why child molesters and rapists are almost always men?  Think of the most evil humans throughout history and almost all are men.  Man was created evil, and since the beginning of history they have stacked society to be patriarchal and misogynistic, insidiously blaming Eve for corrupting Adam.  I'm sure somone will say "But there's evil women, too" yes, and they were made that way by a man.  OK, end crazy rant.
