Can anyone help this sweet girl? I just found out about her this morning, so there's not much time because she's scheduled to die this afternoon. I believe there are 4 or 5 other dogs including puppies that will be killed today at the same high kill shelter in Elk City, Oklahoma. If you can help, please contact Jaye or Cheryl at roar4ever@gmail.com as fast as you can.

Thanks Vickie, I sent them an email. I got no answer when I called.

I was actively involved with Rescue for many years and remain on a few rescue lists. I still get dozens of this kind of urgent email every single day. It's the tragic disregard for the lives of animals that drives people into becoming PETA members and animal rights activists.

There is a lot of lip service on this List about what constitutes a good breeder, but the FOREMOST requirement of a good breeder is rarely mentioned: lifelong responsibility for the dogs they produce. If people really want to improve the breeding of dogs, the easiest and first step is to NEVER buy from a breeder who doesn't require in writing that any dogs they sell or produce be returned to them for rehoming if for any reason the buyer can't keep them. If everyone would do that one thing, we could hugely reduce the number of dogs killed in shelters. By most estimates, at least 25% of animals in shelters are purebred.

OK, I'll step down from my soapbox now.

This is such a shame.I can only imagine how many poor GSD's suffer and get killed in 1 day around the world but these bastard, money hungry scums will just keep breeding as long as the dollar is available.I can tolerate and respect the TRUE,EXPERIANCED BREEDERS,the ones that TRUELY try to better the gene pool  but some of these fall downs that consider themselves breeders are a real joke BUT at the expense of the poor animal.I know it falls on deaf ears and thats the real tragedy.Maybe one day all the governments will step in and put a stop to these money hungry scums.Adreya,I wish there was something I could do but I have 2 already and am in a small house here in Canada or I would gladly help.I hope you can find some way to help the poor dog.Take care.

Maybe one day all the governments will step in? They are discussing human over population as we speak. Many dogs will die today, not just this one. People are also dieing as we speak, starving and sick. What will it take to save them?

Tulsa GSD rescue received my email and hopefully will be able to save her.

I wish I had enough money to take in every homeless animal and child in the world.  I am considering a road trip following old US Route 66 taking photos of rescued animals and shelter dogs in every town along the way to create a 2011 calendar with the proceeds going to rescue. If anyone lives along old Route 66 in the US and would like to be photographed, please PM me.
