So many ants, I haven't been putting bait on the track.  But when I do, it's mainly kibble.  Sometimes I use dry cereal or goldfish crackers if I forget kibble.  Luckily my dog's motivation for tracking is not food, his behaviors are the same whether it's a chuck of veal or the most bland dog kibble.

I use natural balance logs...the ants don't flock to it, maybe one once in a while but overall I don't have a problem with the ants with this stuff...

I use the Natural Balance rolls too.  If you live in a location where you can buy FROZEN BilJac, that stuff is great, but it's  not available across the country.

Liesjers, I'm a masterbaiter. When it gets dry, I usually go for the lotion. I never thought of crackers. I think ants like kibble as much as hotdog. I'd be interested to see what others are using. Most of the people I've been training with are using liver and haven't heard them complaining. I've seen people use the string or mozzarela cut up like hot dog. Your dogs are older and more advanced, right Bob? Are you using a lot of food? I am right now because I have a very young pup. I've been using hot dog because it's cheap and easy. Many people don't like HDs because of the nutrients etc. I'll switch to something better when we take bait off the track.

I've never had a real ant problem in my area until this year. I always use dry kibble and dehydrated lamb lung but the ants are still going for those. No way I can up the food ante on the track this year if needed. Little bastards!

I make my own tracking bait with liver and garlic.  The garlic keeps the ants away and the dogs love the liver.

if you have a "dehydrator",try raw liver, frozen and cut into small peices,a trainer in my area told me that ants don't recognize the frozen liver as food till it starts to thaw....i guess you could boil it and then dehydrate...not sure..i haven't tried it and i don't do much tracking...give it a go and let me know how it works.
