Back again.  I've got the ivermectin down. I had a dog that accidentally ingested about a 1000lb. horse dose of the 1.87% paste.  He was only 8 mos. old and yes, lucky me, he is 3.5 years old now and laying next to me chomping on a goody.www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/514449.html He was ataxic and blind. It took three days of steroids and other supportive treatment and he was o.k.

Vickie, I was surprised to see your post. I had just got done looking at your web site. Good luck with SAM vom KERNENTURM! He looks like he bred like a power haus!

Anyway, here is some of the stuff that is out there as treatment for sarcoptic mange.  Mind you, this is from Cornell University Vet School. Here is the link and the copied and pasted dosages. Way too high in my book too. www.sheltermedicine.vet.cornell.edu//shelter/Ivermectin/scabies.htm

Dose for scabies (sarcoptic mange) in dogs: 0.3mg/kg by mouth or SQ once every week for 2-3 doses. Itching should resolve with treatment. (See dosing chart for volume to administer.)

Important:
Do not use these doses in
Collies/Shelties or in heartworm positive dogs!

Remember the rule - White feet, do not treat! This includes Collies, Shelties, Sheepdogs, and any crosses with these breeds. If you're unsure, don't use it.

Never give this dose to a heartworm positive dog!

Dose volumes are for undiluted 1% ivermectin:
Dog's Weight Dose to give by mouth
or SQ ONCE each week
Up to 15 lbs 0.2 mL
16 - 30 lbs 0.4 mL
31 - 45 lbs 0.6 mL
46 - 60 lbs 0.8 mL
61 - 75 1.0 mL
76 - 90 lbs 1.2 mL
91 - 105 1.4 mL
106 - 120 lbs 1.6 mL
121 - 135 lbs 1.8 mL
136 - 150 lbs 2.0 mL

Wow!  Again, thank you all and no fighting kids!  There are TOO MANY opinions to be had; even from sources that you would think as "reputable".

                         Much Respect and Peace,
                           Don D.

Lots of good info here, and yes, if there is any chance your dogs have the "collie" type of weak constitution, be very careful.  My dose was prescribed to me by my vet, and I have no reason to doubt her.  I've done it for many years now, and my dogs are living up to 14 years of age, very healthy, so not thinking I'm killing them?

Everybody has their own experiences, opinions, and info sources: you are right to check many and use the one that works for you - and YOUR DOGS.

Boarder collies are lacking a gene that dissipate the chemicals. But I have used it as a
topical with success. It kills everything including fungus, bacteria....Mites. Even after
talking to a Vet it is best use very small amount as a topical to see if your pup has a reaction to it.
Before a larger dose is applied. It is a good wormer as well, in very small amounts.

If it is aplied where the pup can lick  it off dont use very much.
