This senior GSD was dumped in a high-kill shelter in CA as punishment by the father of a 7 year old boy whose grades didn't improve.

I know you're reading that sentence and thinking your comprehension skills must have failed you, because you thought it said that a 7 year old kid's FATHER took the kid's aging GSD to a shelter with a high-kill rate, and left the dog there AS PUNISHMENT to the kid for his GRADES not improving...and that just doesn't seem possible, that a father would do something like that to his own kid.

But that's exactly what's happened.  This worthless excuse for a man drove a 7 year old kid and the kid's old dog to a shelter that has to handle a high volume of animals, and owner-surrendered her while the kid watched.  This disgusting specimen of the human species should be reported to Family Services or whatever the agency that investigates child abuse is called in CA, because this undoubtedly constitutes emotional and psychological abuse and cruelty to that child...and if he could do this, you can bet he's done other things in that vein to this kid (and any others in the family).

You need a license to drive a car, and to own a dog,  but anyone with some viable sperm can impregnate some female and then abuse the resulting offspring like this in the name of being 'a good father'.  This asshat deserves to rot in the worst pits of hell. NOW.

Anyone in a position to help this old girl out?  I recognize the truth of the adage, 'we can't save them all', but this dog needs a good, forever home not just for her sake, but for the well-being of the poor kid who had the only creature that loved him unconditionally taken from him...maybe if he knows that Petunia is safe and in good hands, he won't be quite as scarred by this trauma...

Absolutely horrible.  Another entry in the book of lists of never ending surprise and disappointment in the human race.

Oh that is terrible for someone to do that with a 7 yr old wow..I have a 9 and a 6 yr old I could never do that to my own child..that is cruel...that poor dog is just heartbroken as well...no home that she felt comfortable in no warmth of her loving family..karma will get him...

I wonder if the father ever considered that his kid might need assistance / tutoring? Not all kids learn the same way. Some just need more help.

True story..

I worked with a guy who had seven children, all girls. They all had poor grades and were difficult to get through their classes. Finally, with the last child, he had her tested for a hearing problem. I guess someone saw something and suggested it to him.

Come to find out, that not only THIS girl, but ALL of his girls had a congenital problem with their hearing. He never imagined that, and pretty much whooped all of those poor kids all the way through school, because of their poor grades. I'm sure that none of them reached their potential. They never had a chance.

If he had any sense in his head, he had to feel like an ass that he put his kids through that punishment for so many years, when all they really needed was help and prosthetic hearing aids.

There are lots of kids out there who just need help, and maybe just knowing that someone really cares about them. Many will never get these things and will struggle through life, failing as they go, and never understanding what is "wrong" with them.

Lovely dog. I wish I could help, but I hope someone will. It would be nice if the kid could get to visit the dog, again.

What a bastard of a man!!!!! I would not be surprised if he has given that poor child and his best friend a hell of a life,I also feel the poor little chap has lost his protector. How can any decent human being treat a child and a dog like this,I wish to god that bastard gets whats coming to him in some way or another, the horrible git, When I think of the bond between my Grandson and my dogs,it makes my blood boil.

That man is breathing a good mans air
