I'm planning a road trip in a few weeks, just me and two dogs, no kids, no SO. I have to go out that way soon and figured I'd make it into a getaway just for me. I've been browing dogfriendly.com but no advice is as good as from the locals. :)

What are some places I should check out with my dogs? I'm thinking First Landing State park, I've never seen the ocean and they let you walk your dog on the beach, unlike a lot of area parks. I'll be heading west through the Ohio turnpike (shudder) but I'm not opposed to taking a long way home through WV/KY/southern IL. I am a nature buff, so parks and natural wonders are my kind of thing. I kinda want to check out the state forest in Southern IL with the rock formations, too.

So hit me with some do-not-miss stuff I can take my dogs along for, if you ever take your dogs to Chicago, I'll do the same. :)

I don't think so, Robin. I am expecting to go a bit sooner. NASS is out for us. My fiance will be right smack in the middle of the fire academy, which means he won't be working for 8 weeks. Not a good time to drop a grand on a dog show, and I have to keep money set aside for something else I have in the works (not gonna jinx it!). I'm pretty sad, but there's always next year.

You will find all 3 of those states very dog friendly. Most all motels in the 3 accept pets. Stay out of NC with pets, its hard as can be to find motels in NC that accept pets. When we use to show in OB we hate NC , due to the motel situations and there anti pet agendas.

Ray is correct, Blue Ridge Mtns. I believe the road thru there (mountains) is called Skyline Drive.

Very scenic ride

And on your travels, dont forget that all Motel 6's are dog friendly. And they give 10% discount for AKC members.

Kelly,
let me know if and when you would be in the area of Harpers Ferry, WV and/or the northern part of the Blue Ridge (VA). We could meet for dinner if it works out with our work schedule.
