Actually thanks, I've been having problems with an itchy cat. I've been hesitant to go this route, but I have to do something, can't keep giving him shots.

It destroys the Taurine in the grounding. PLEASE do not let your cat go longer than 8 hours without eating.
That is enough time to potentially shut down the liver in some cats, I know as I have had cats do so that quick. Especially if the cat is already overweight. That article about a cat going 24 hours without eating is very misleading and potentially dangerous.
Hope that helps.

may i ask where you got 8 hours from? there are some very informative raw feeding websites out there, from people who have been doing this for decades longer than i have, and they too say not to fast cats for longer than a day.
also, if the owner is able to feed chunks, that would be fantastic! Unfortunately, not everyone is able to do that for various reasons. i have lots of vegetarian and vegan clients that want absolutely nothing to do with meat or anything that looks like meat. so if feeding a pre-made ground mix gets them on a raw path rather than staying with kibble, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
i also recommend people feed extra whole hearts (chicken, turkey, beef) for additional taurine, wether they feed chunks or pre-made ground mixes.

My father was a veterinarian. AND I know from experience that a cat can experience liver shut down in a matter of several hours if prone to it.
I got my degree in animal nutrition. I know quite a bit about nutrition actually. I'm also a raw feeder.
I have to ask you... Do you sell a raw food product? IF you do I suggest you do your homework. GROUND food breaks down taurine. Why would you misinform others by saying ground is perfectly fine for felines?
Also, if you are selling a product it should go under the classified section.

secondly, there are plenty of people that are veterinarians and animal nutritionists who have all sorts of varied views. and as you stated above....in your experience.
in my experience, however, the majority of people who are considered resources for raw feeding information say a cat should not be fasted for more than a day. i have never come across the number 8 hours.
yes, i do sell raw food. and yes i have done my homework. and if people are unable or unwilling to feed their cats whole chunks of meat, i will recommend ground meat rather than telling them to just stick with kibble because they are unworthy of raw feeding. and then i will recommend that they feed extra hearts, or give a taurine supplement if they prefer, for the additional taurine.
you may also want to do your homework, because there are "studies" out there that have shown freezing and thawing meat can deplete it's natural taurine as well. does this mean that if people can't buy and feed fresh meat, that they shouldn't feed raw?
i can go a step further, if you would really like to feed a cat properly (meaning the only one correct way to feed cats), and tell you that feeding chunks of meat is useless. you should be feeding fresh whole prey items, with heads, fur, eyeballs, etc. does that mean if you are unable to go and make a fresh kill for your cat, that you shouldn't feed raw?
do you think what you just wrote is going to encourage people to switch their cats over to raw? because the way i see it, when someone starts posting this "you're wrong, i'm right, me, my, mine..." what you're actually doing is discouraging people, and alienating them. not a good way to get them to think outside the box, and want to switch to raw.
and the classified section does not apply to this thread as i am not selling a product; i'm posting a link to an article. and if one person finds it remotely helpful, then i'm satisfied.
