I get 5-10 of these emails every day, and I see online posts about it everywhere. "DOG WILL DIE IN 3 DAYS!!!!" and it's in some shelter in another state or in a far rural area, all different breeds ppl forward them to me. So, just because they're going to die soon they're more desirable than the other dogs?
I just do not get it, the sudden desire one has to get a dog just because you know it's going to be euthanized. Am I cold-hearted? Because that knowledge really has no effect on me. Maybe I feel more for suffering than for death.
I went to www.dogsindanger.com I put my zip code in (Chicago) and chose 100 mile radus. No dogs in my area. So they want you to drive out 300 miles to some probably awful shelter and pick up one of these dogs, that btw are mostly not vaccinated, dewormed, or neutered. They also have a "memorium" page with photos of all the deceased dogs, after the shelters changed their status to "euthanized." With "donate in my memory" next to each.
I have 2 intake clients just in the past few days who adopted a dog from far away, one just adopted from a high-kill shelter in rural IL (oh surprise he's aggressive to both dogs and strangers), the other flew the dog in from a rescue in L.A., And I have one here now that was flown in from another country, I guess stray dogs can be like a travel souvenier? They act like they want a medal of honor for adopting a dog. "What's your dogs name?" "Oh, it's Frulattale, he's a rescue." Oh, well here's your medal, savior.
I'd rather adopt in my own city, we have tons of dogs here that desperately need homes. And doing so may lessen the burden on taxpayers.
Thoughts on this phenomenon?
Thanks for lettin' me vent!!!!

A sign of the times maybe? Where if you don't have some kind of "story" you get lost in the masses?

Next time you get a bleeding heart looking for a dog, send 'em my way. I have a few that need loving homes.
