GSDtravels

So, in the spring, I bought a bird feeder and filled it up.  I immediately acquired a new pet squirrel!  He would empty the feeder in 15 minutes.  I gave up and just poured seed at the top of my steps above the terrace, easier refill, LOL.  A tiny corn stalk grew from the bird feed and I was careful to go around it when I weed-whacked.

My youngest daughter's boyfriend came to do my terrace this week while I was working.  I had already done about 3/4 of it, but he finished for me, BONUS!   Then, when I got home, I saw my poor little (about 24") corn stalk's body in the grass.  I'm bummed, I wouldn't say anything because I'm really grateful for the help, but I was hoping to have my own home-grown corn stalk for Halloween.

Admittedly, this is a very silly post, but...

Maybe tomorrow I'll post a picture of the poor thing's remains.

I think it was very calous of him to leave  poor cornstalk's dead and lifeless  body lieing in the grass like that...murderer.......could be a silent sort of threat too......"give me any grief about your lovely daughter and I'll' weed wack you too"......Oh and good idea about taking a picture - might need it for evidence.

LOL  I went over there for dinner tonight and he even cooked.  I'm sure glad my kids picked men unlike their father.  I think she'll keep this one!  We'll see...

He helps out around your place AND cooks too?!??!!  You have a smart daughter, you raised her right!

Hmmm. Not a bad trade, corn stalk for dinner and home improvement. You could do worse. ;-)

LOL no corn.

I totally understand. I notice vegetation volunteers in my yard all the time, and love watching them grow, too.I actually had corn grow from one of the decorative indian corn things we hang on our doors. I have learned to put some kind of marker in the ground next to my special charges so my weed whacking DH won't level them. So sorry for the loss of your corn!

If it is any consolation for you, you probably wouldn't have had proper germination with one stalk, and then if by chance you did, your friendly squirrel would surely have beaten you to it!

I actually didn't expect to get any ears of corn, I just thought it would be cool to hack it down in the fall and put it by my door.   Given the fact that it grew from bird seed and had no friends, I just wanted to see how big it would get.  Next year I could actually plant a couple, but I just loved the spontaneity of the little bugger!  I have to charge my camera battery.
