Seems like every week this happens?
The dog got out of a room and apparently went right up and chomped on the baby. The dog looks like a Boxer/Pit sort of mix, article says Pit Mix, but of course headline says "Pit Bull." I hope the baby recovers fully.

Sad indeed. Looks like another case of what Karen Delise calls "resident dog" rather than family dog. Too bad it was not tethered/kenneled, as obviously it was not socialized with the child. People are such idiots. I feel strongly that criminal charges should be put on people who endanger their children by keeping resident type dogs unconfined... perhaps it would stop the practice. A dog is either a "family pet" which is socialed to the home and ALL in it, or a "resident dog" which often must be treated almost like a wild animal since it is treated almost the same. : (
August is generally the month with the most dog bites, probably due to the horrible heat and fact that kids are out running around more, unattended.
