Hello everyone this is my first post on here.
I thought many of you could help me since some have imported dogs before.
I just purchased a puppy from a french breeder. The breeder does no speak english so we have been comunticating via email. I also Have some breeder friends that speak french if needed.
My problem is that the breeder is telling me shipping dog in cargo will be very expensive, she said that if I come to France and pick up my puppy it will be cheaper. I am not understanding how this option is cheaper ? ( I do not think breeder has shipped dogs to USA before ) I could be wrong but i so do not know any other breeder where with her bloodline. She mostly has imported withing europe or neighboring countries.
The puppy is 3 months now and we are waiting for her to turn 4 months old for rabies shot.
I contactes a few transporting companies based in Los Angeles but none fo them returned my calls ( will call them again tomorrow)
She invited me to come pick up puppy and stay at her castle ( yes she lives in a french castle lol ) but I am not seeing this being chaper than to pay a transporting company ?
please enlighten me

Yes, it is always cheaper (much cheaper) to travel with your pet than to have him/her/it shipped to you.

Some shipping company's will let you cary puppies on as carry on which is way cheaper than shipping, but for total cost you to fly over and carry on puppy compare to just shipping I don't know but to stay in s castle that would have to be worth it !! My broker told me the airlines are getting wise to this, so what ever is more convenient for you, just had a puppy shipped and shipping cost just as much as pup almost so look in to it.

Ok Can you tell me why it would be cheaper ?
What if the puppy is big where will the crate go?, if you are bringing it with you one carry on? This is what I am not getting she will be at least 33lbs that is not small like a toy breed lol
Do they charge you to take dog with you as carry on ? or its it free and this is why it its cheaper ?

I don't know about larger pups but could talk to my broker / breeder and find out translation is always hard but where there's a will there's a way. What would you prefer to do? If you don't want to travel just insist they ship pup if willing to go then researcher prices. I think it would be worth it to stay in a CASTLE!!

How can it be cheaper, I thought it would be more because you are flying a human, too. 33lbs is not like a little Chihuahua you can put in a purse on your lap. It seems it would be worth it to be able to meet all the dogs in person and just to know where your dog comes from. Curious to know what happens and what you figure out with pricing.
