Of course there are always two sides to a story, but I don't think it was right that the officer killed a dog at a dog park!  Dogs are dogs and even if the Husky was aggressive, he should have known what he was risking since he was in a dog park!

One "puppy owner" of mine had a loose, unsupervised Pit come after his GSD (adult by then, thank goodness) while he was walking it on leash in his neighborhood (not a dog park) and they literally fought for 8 minutes, both holding their own.  His dog suffered many injuries and the vet was surprised he made it through.  This owner, also a police officer, was off-duty and told me that he wished he hadn't left his off-duty weapon at home because in his state he could legally take out the other dog.  In this case, a clear attack from an unsupervised dog, I can see why he should have used his weapon on it and shorten the long, severe fight.  BUT a dog park!?

Normally I don't weigh in on these because you never seem to get the whole story but I've got to agree that this sounds out of line.

I mean he knowingly walked into that dog park, where dogs are off leash, it's not like the dog was off leash in the open and charged him, his wife or his dog.

This is typical of an officer abusing power. In this case the States Dog Laws. There needs to be a public inquiry on this and fast. NOT the dog law, but the incident alone.

Pisses me off, too bad someone else didn't pack and carry who knew the State Dog Law and shoot to kill his dog ... legally that's what SHOULD have happened. It's no wonder why they want to disarm us.

What this officer did was lawful, BUT, why was his dog on a leash in the first place with everyone elses dogs running FREE ? There's a reason for it and now we know, that Husky paid the ultimate price 4 being FREE !!!!!!

This is a perfect example of a State Law abused by an officer of the Law. If I would have been there and see it play out, I would have been the one to shoot and kill his dog ....

I'm writing a letter. Thanks for posting this.

Why don't you guys wait until the investigation is complete. If they find that the fed was in the wrong, he ill get his for firing his weapon. If he was right, well then he may have saved himself or wife serious injury. If that dog had actually bitten one of them, you wouldn't have anything to say. What if you were on a flight with this guy and all of a sudden he shot the guy next to you as he was seemingly going up towards the front. Now as you know nothing, you tell reporters that the man was just going to the bathroom. This officer is a menace. Later you find out that the man had c4 strapped to his body and was headed to the cockpit. Wait until there is an investigation. Let the facts tell the story. Not some neighbor enjoying their 15 minutes of fame. Every neighbor says the suspect was "so nice and polite. We would have never seen this coming" If this guy isn't telling the truth, he is done in LE. He will never be able to take the stand in any case. A prosecutor will eat him up. His agency knows that.

Sam Spade...you are such an extimist...plane, c4...for god sake..it was a dog park...officer could have pulled the leash and walked out of the park with his dog and wife...makes you wonder did he shoot it and just stood there or turned arround and walked away.....did he put pressure on bleeding wound...i mean if it was done in cold blood, and he just walked away...brrrr...i dont want that officer working in my city...what if someone calls in a house break and he comes running in and shoot the person crawling into a window to later find out the person was an owner who locked himself out? (I had to clime through the my window 3 times this year! ) ....anyways....no one likes a hot head..even on the forums. :)
