I accidentally came across the BEST game ever to play with Prince. I have Quarter Horses and after working one I was carrying the lunge whip while walking Prince. To make a long story short Prince was interested in the lunge whip so I thought it would be fun to try and lunge a GSD. LOL.....Anyway, he chased, jumped, and ran like never before. Not all lunge whips are created equal and this was a nice one with tons of bounce.. it surprisingly survived very well despite Prince biting and pulling on it. It would be SUPER fun if I attached something exciting to the end of the whip.............Has anyone ever tried this ? .......If not I would highly recommend it... ENJOY!!!

They sell lunge whips with pieces of sheepskin attached to the end. I make my own because I am too cheap to buy the ones in the stores :-P They are short lived though if the dog is fast enough to catch it ;-)

Yeah, it's called a flirt pole. Been using it for a long time with a rag on the end for puppies.

Ruger1, we also play with our dogs using a lunge whip....We also use it with puppies...we sometimes tie little toys to the end of it, the puppies love to chase it around...If we just use it with the little fuzzy tip it has, I believe it stimulates more concentration from the puppy... JUST MY OPINION....We have been using the lunge whip for many years.....We do not have horses
on our property but my neice does and we do spend alot of time working with her, and her horses, using the lunge whip....

Nandaconda, I don't like to use the fuzzy end. Puppies tend to get frontal grips and it doesn't promote what I want to see in a dog. I like something on the end that they can get a full grip and something bigger to target. We have horse flies that they can fine tune their focus on! ;)

I'd be careful of playing with a lunge whip with a cracker on the end, too easy to snap the cracker and risk giving him a sting on the face and turning him off the game.
Just as easy is to use a leash through the end of a bite rag or a jute handle and toss that around for the same effect.

Sam, I did not say I let the puppies grip the fuzzy end...Thats why we put the toys on the end of it..Guess I should have made myself clearer..I just took it for granted that it was understood the fuzzy tip wasn't used to let puppies get a bite on.....I don't like the idea of using horseflies to enforce concentration puppies....Thats could lead to problems... But to each his own.. Whatever works for you and what you want to see at that given time, whether its puppies or dogs....
RHLAR, at no point in time do WE ever crack the whip... Its more like just dragging the end around so the puppies can chase it....
