Hey, I'm hoping by October to import my  first working puppy  from Germany  and was looking for some advise or tips on how to go about it and the importing process.  How does the currency  change work when converting to euros? How is the money sent?

I will most likely be shipping into the(Texas) Dallas/Fort Worth  international airport, and was wondering if anyone has had any problems with receiving a puppy.

The currency never stops changing, the bank will let you know.
My bank did a wire transfer, took some time.
The breeder handled shipping through Gradelyn and I had to go through customs and pay fees myself.
Things went surprisingly well, except the pup had been in the crate for close to 14 hours and things were a bit messy.
Take towels and water with you...lol

I hope you found a breeder who won't screw you.

Buy from a "well known" breeder.  Salztalblick, Tiekerhook......kennels like that.  Steinhart in Hungary is a good kennel too.  Bank wire works best.  The Euro fluctuates so you will have to convert USD to EURO.  Shipping is pretty uneventful really if it is your first time.  Just don't tell customs your puppy is for future breeding....it is ONLY a PET! And then you are charged a customs fee based on the purchase amount.  My standard answer is 1,500USD for the last adult dogs I brought in!  I have never been asked for proof and the last time customs waived my customs fees.  Don't know why but they did and I am ok with that too!

Good luck,

Vickie

. This is the litter I've inquired about.  http://www.working-dog.eu/dogs-details/521213/Easy-von-der-Hundshardt

Granted I understand many say Bomber is "over-bred" but nobody is saying I'm going to breed anyhow.

Thank you Moons and Vickie, what "proof" would they be asking for?

I see this pup is coming from a kennel. Just make sure that the breeder agrees to complete the required paper work with the SV, including payinf the fees required for your AKC Bescheinigung.
The reason I say this is because I bought a young female (not from this breeder) and am still having issues trying to get the
Bescheinigung because the person selling the dog has not completed the business with the SV. Namly paying the fee for the Bescheinigung and turning in the certified pedigree.
Without the Bescheinigung the AKC will not let you register your new puppy or adult dog.
Good luck, the breeding looks good.

I had no problems importing a Malinois from Europe BUT I had help in the form of my trainer who is from Croatia.  He had a friend in Croatia who evaluated my dog before I agreed to buy her and then he arranged transportation using Gradlyn.  The dog arrived safely in Chicago, it was a breeze going through customs - there was no fee at customs and within an hour we were on our way home.  Personally I will not import a dog unless I have someone on the ground there I trust to evaluate the dog and help arrange everything.

Very helpful so far.
Rbud:  what exactly is the Bescheinigung?
