I just found out today that my bitch is pregnant with 7-9 pups. She is two years old and first litter. This was not a planned litter and I'm looking for help with Whelping and or foster care until whelping is complete. Any help would be much appreciated

So shes definetly pregnant. How did you confirm that? What kind of help are you looking for? Are you saying you want someone to take care of this bitch until shes done with her litter?

by Doomsayer on 22 March 2006 - 23:03

Definitely pregnant they did a xray which allowed me to see the little bones. I've never whelped a litter and wasn't plannig this one. I have two children under two and the timing could not be worse as I gettign ready to move about 1600 miles. #Would love for some one to take her and whelp or foster until I could find hone for the puppies

Just curious as to what your trainer says about this happening, I assume you have notified him.

IMO, if this happened while at the trainers as you mentioned, then the trainer should be held responsible and take care of it for you. I don't think you'll find many EXPERIENCED who are willing to whelp a litter at no cost. It's alot of work and time invested if done properly. However, the cost shouldn't be yours, but should be absorbed by the trainer who failed to take precautions. Just my opinion for what it's worth. :)

Be careful, gsheplvr, saying stuff like that will get your posts deleted as has happened to several of us today.

I am a responsible owner and the dogs willnot be goig tot he Shelter. Please read before you speak... I'm looking for help whelping and possible foster care at a reason price in the Minneapolis area... I guess there always has to be one keyboard warrior who spouts off at the mouth before you know the entire situation.

I hope I am not off base with this but I have only read this post about this situation. I am gathering that this female got pregnant while at a trainers. If that is the case then Brittany & gsheplvr should back up a little. Just because Doomsayer owns a female that is not fixed, the fault does not soley rely on Dommsayer. What about this trainer. If you think that Doomsayer has no business breeding becase of letting an intact female around an intact male and the trainer letting them tie, then the trainer should nueter all their dogs and spaye all their females, it is just as much the trainers fault for having an intact male that was not under control. Dont blame Doomsayer just because she owns the female. That is total BS!

Dear Blizten, You are right and I am sorry. I must be more politcally correct so let me re-post. Dear Doomsayer, It is indeed an unfortunate predictament you find yourself in. In my ever so humble opinion, when we make the descision to own a dog we must also accept all the responsibilities that go along with owning said dog, regardless of bad timing. All unfortunate or inconvenient situations come with bad timing. Having been given the gift of free will and choice,I personally feel when we commit to bringing into our lives an innocent, dependent creature, such as our dogs, it is our ethical obligation to act in their best interest, regardless of how incovenient it may be in our carefully laid out plans. Life is not fair - so we need to step up and deal with it. In my still humble opinion, it is not some stranger's obligation to whelp your dog and foster her pups until they fit back into your lifestyle, especially at a time when she needs you the most. Best of luck to you and more importantly, best of luck to the unplanned pups in finding loving homes. In a country where millions of dogs and cats land in shelters they are not easily found. P.S. Brittany, This is Debbie writing, not Larry. I am the "keyboard warrior" and animal rights activist in this family!
