German Shepard eat her pup - Page 1

Hi all,
it`s pleasure joining your forum, I done so yesterday and from that time I have learnt so meny things about my dog.
But on another note my shepard had puppies on monday, the sad and most disgusting  thing I ever seen is that  she
started eating the one of the pup back leg, I had to held on to her jaws to get her to release the pup and secure it, in
about hour she had two more I had to quickly secured them from her.
Question how can I care for these pups?

sorry to hear that - you will need to keep the puppies away from her.  Put a muzzle on the mother dog and put the puppies on her nipples every 2 hours, round the clock.  Make sure they nurse until they are finished, with full bellies.  Then take a warm cloth and stroke their bellies over their genetals until they pee and poop.  Every two hours.  You must stimulate them and clean them as you can't trust the mother to do it.  Keep them away from the mother in between feedings/cleanings.  Do not breed her again.

Thank you very much for that info, tried muzzling the mother before but she is not settling for them to nurse.

Make her settle!  Tell her to lie down and stay there while they nurse.  You are the human, she is the dog - she must do what you tell her to do!  If not, get a friend to help you or do it yourself - hold her there until the puppies are done nursing.  Unless you want to lose the puppies.
