You may remember a recent request from Van Andel Institute, a research facility located in Grand Rapids, MI for blood and tissue samples from dogs that have been diagnosed with cancer. These samples are being used in studies of various cancers in dogs and humans, such as hemangiosarcoma (a particular scourge of the GSD). More info can be found here:

Today, Dr. Roe Froman, Senior Veterinary Research Scientist at Van Andel Institute, has forwarded an announcement about a new online registry, which makes it even easier for owners to enroll their dogs with cancer in the oncology studies. Dr. Froman would like this information to reach as many USA dog owners as possible so the 2000 sample target can be met as soon as possible, so the progress the project is currently making can continue without interuption. If you have a dog that's been diagnosed with cancer, or know someone else who's dealing with that heartbreak, please enroll in this new on-line registry and let your pet's battle with cancer play a role in finding ways to avoid, beat or better treat the disease.
