How many folk here take out Vet Insurance for their dogs?  Or how do you view this situation?  If not, what are your thoughts on any medical requirements for your dog(s)?

Although the cost of Insurance in the UK is expensive, I rather hope I am wasting my money and not need any Vet Services, but with their fees being so high, it gives me peace of mind that they are covered.

Insurance will only drive prices higher.

It's a sham as far as I'm concerned.

Hello Two Moons,  Yes, I understand what you mean.  Vets often ask whether the animal is insured or not (even though payment has to made at the time, so it shouldn't make a difference).  It sounds like they might be inclined to add to the Bill knowing that the Insurance will pay.  So Vet Fees increase and so does the Insurance!

I see it as the lesser of the two 'evils' having the Insurance.

You would.

My Vet tries to sell me that crap.

It is not the lesser of two evils.....  it is the root of evil it's self.

Do you really spend that much at the Vet?

Poor dogs.

i only have insurance for my dog biting (incase something happens and my dogs bite to protect) not vet bills my dogs are rarely at the vets so no need for that one

No Two Moons, in fact my GSD's are remarkably healthy.  But that is the very purpose of Insurance isn't it, to safeguard 'in case'!  (Which is what I mean't when I said that I hope I am wasting my money and do not need the services of the Insurance Company)!

Even considered putting the money aside and saving it instead, for 'just in case', but with the costs involved at a Vet, whatever was saved, would be gulped like an alligator and have Oliver asking for "MORE"!

Not an easy choice, which is why I asked what others think or do?

You wanna see prices go up and unnecessary procedures performed then definitely get the insurance industry involved.

Just look at what has happened to human health care.

It's obscene.

If you have healthy Dogs it really is waste of your Money all you would do is pay the Insurance Agency's Salery, I have all my dogs insured with Liability thats all.

This is also why it is important to have a Vet you know and trust (within reason they are not all business first and foremost).  But like people, we can be up and running one day and flat on our back the next.....

Knowing my dogs are healthy is great.
Knowing I have 3rd Party and Medical Cover for anything that I clearly cannot anticipate is peace of mind.
