Sunsilver

The move went as smoothly as could be expected, which means the #%%@!!! mortgage company did not release the funds to the seller until 4 pm, while the movers arrived at 9 am, which meant I paid them to stand around for 7 hours, at the rate of $118 an hour...

As I am out in the country here, on 2 acres of land, it took awhile to get internet service. My Rogers rocket stick arrived yesterday. Oh yes, how's this for stupidity: they sent me an e-mail to tell me it was on its way!

Today was my friend's (now also my business partner) bitch's first due date, and she started to whelp at 8 pm. We are now up to 6 puppies (as of 12:40 am) and all are strong and vigourous. The largest so far has been a girl at 22 oz. The smallest, 9.4 oz. may have a club foot, but is sucking well along with the rest.

The first born we've called 'Busy Lizzie', as she just doesn't stop moving! She's also a talker, and the only time she's relatively quiet and still is when she has a nipple in her mouth!

The vet thought she saw 9 puppies on the x-ray earlier this week, possibly 10. Story gained about 20 lbs. during her pregnancy. I really hope we're not going to be blessed with 13, as happened with someone else's bitch recently!

Off to bed... SOMEONE has to look after the kennel in the morning, and I think my friend and her son are going to be pulling an all-nighter!

Okay, looks like the final count is 10, 5 boys 5 girls. All are doing well. I'll get some pics once Sarah is able to get Mom and the whelping box cleaned up a bit. It's always bothered me when i see pictures of a dirty, bloody whelping box and mother on the database here. Yes, birth is messy, but do you really want people seeing your bitch looking like that?

Ah, moving day; & whelping a litter to boot, sounds like fun! Moving day is the day that I both dream about & simultaneously dread....but having a new litter does sound like fun, challenging fun, but fun all the same. Congratulations on both
