My 2year old gsd has this odor coming from the top of his tail and underneath. He had his anal glands removed a year ago and the smell is almost similar. I took him to the vet and all was good in that area. He said seeing he is not neuteured there is small scent glands at the top and underneath of his tail and is tosterone level can create a scent.
Any info would help!!! Thanks

Sounds like it is a naturally occurring smell from an intact dog. I have never heard of removing anal sacs from a GSD, but then again, all my male dogs have always been neutered. Why would you do that instead of neutering, if you don't mind my asking?

Beetree- I don't think that the removal of the anal sacs has anything to do with the neutering. Some dogs get inpacted anal glands to the point that they have to be removed. I know wolves have a sent gland on their tail but wasn't aware of a domestic dog having it.

Is the vet concerned about the smell?
