Just an FYI for those thinking about purchasing, or have purchased a German Shepherd from a breeder in Yucaipa, CA

I work for the SBHS and a local breeder brought in a puppy to be euthanized that was in extremely poor shape (pretty close to death). In doing research we found out that they also took a different puppy (a full littermate) to a vet in this area that tested POSITIVE for PARVO VIRUS. That puppy has also since died.

The virus has been confirmed, and is spreading through that general area (we have spoken with a local boarding kennel that has been contacted to help with three other litters who contracted the virus - different breeders with completely different breeds)

Two puppies are confirmed dead. They are in a kennel DIRECTLY touching an older litter of puppies (Longcoats advertised here) and those puppies have been 110% exposed to the sick / dead puppies directly.

Please note that PUPPIES OF ANY AGE CAN CATCH THIS VIRUS AND IF NOT CAUGHT QUICKLY WILL KILL! If you have purchased a puppy from this breeder, please please please continue to keep it isolated from other puppies as they can be carriers.

PLEASE BE INFORMED! We were recently contacted by someone who purchased a puppy from a breeder who did not feel the need to disclose an exposure to Parvo, their puppy is dead.

DO YOUR HOMEWORK WHEN PURCHASING YOUR NEXT PUPPY.

If you would like more information on the breeders who have confirmed cases of Parvo Virus please send us a private message.

This is a vaccine resistant strain of parvovirus, I am told, also present killing pups, old and young, in Fresno.

GOD!!! That is SO scary! I am deathly afraid of parvo. I live in Sacramento and a couple years ago we had a bad outbreak in the kennels, and shelters... it was so sad. However, now I have a puppy and it scares the CR*P out of me even more!!

Parvo is going to be bad in a lot of places.  Based on information from my vet he has seen a LOT if it very early here in Michigan.  Several rescue friends I know have had it and a co-worker of my husbands purchased a GSD from a local breeder and not only did their puppy break with Parvo but the breeder lost a couple as well.  To the best of my knowlege this is NOT vaccine resistant but rather people are slacking off of vaccinations for a couple of reasons, the first being the horrible economy we have faced here in the US and so many people do not feel they need ro vaccinate every year.  That is fine if you check titers otherwise you have no idea if your dog is immune.

I work as a veterinary nurse and a local breeder NOT German Shepherds  ----  Cocker spaniels, they had 2 litters - 13 puppies in all, come down with Parvo 10 days post vaccination. As these 2 litters were from their new import they had intentions of running all or most puppies on to see how they developed, they were left with 4 - very sad case as they are one of the most health conscientious breeders' I know.

NSW, Australia.

There are so many breeders that only think about the money they can earn from puppies, This breeder never allows anyone to view her puppies until they are ready to go to homes, always changes clothes and shoes before going into her puppy area and disinfects using high grade disinfectants and she still has an outbreak of parvo. What more can be done?

Just for what my opinion is worth I was thinking possible bad batch of vaccine ( but why did it affect only her puppies ) or even possible infection picked up on day of  vaccination as they were done on a very busy day, maybe the break down was with the breeder, we all become complacent at times and for go  our usual procedure ---  I don't know but it is heart breaking when it happens.

I personally I would prefer not to take any baby puppies into the vet,  you have no idea of what illness the previous animals had

When I have a litter I won't go near them if I have been to work until I shower and change and even then I worry.
