I heard there are many show in Germany, some local and some international.
THey all will award dogs with V, VA, SG titles in those show.

Can anyone tell me which are the more important ones?
if a dog receive a SG, V rating in a smaller show, does it really mean it is a high quality dog? or do they give away award very easily in those smaller show and the title means very little?

All shows count - regional show results count towards Koerung just as bigger shows do. The "Bundessiegerzuchtschau" (Sept. 2010 in Nuremberg) is the biggest show in Germany. Dogs from all over Germany participate and with more participants it might be harder to please the eyes of that particular judge.
And of course winning on a national base gives your dog's name a bigger audience.
But all German Shepherds should be not only show dogs but also working dogs, so a show title alone is only half the deal...

SV Set-Up

Local Club Shows (OG); Gradings start from puppy classes right through to open classes (the highest rating a puppy 9-12months can get is VV (very promising)

JKL (youth class 12-18); Highest grading is SG (Very Good)
JHKL (young adult) 18-24) Highest grading SG (Very Good)
GHKL (Adult Working Dog 24+ with a working tytle SchH) Highest grading V (Excellent)

Regional Champuionship (LG); Gradings start from puppy classes right through to open classes (the highest rating a puppy 9-12months can get is VV (very promising)

JKL (youth class 12-18); Highest grading is SG (Very Good)
JHKL (young adult) 18-24) Highest grading SG (Very Good)
GHKL (Adult Working Dog 24+ with a working tytle SchH) Highest grading V (Excellent)

Main Breed Show (BSZS) The Bigest Event in the Calender Year of German Shepherds World Wide

JKL (youth class 12-18); Highest grading is SG (Very Good)
JHKL (young adult) 18-24) Highest grading SG (Very Good)
GHKL (Adult Working Dog 24+ with a working tytle SchH) Highest grading VA (Excellent Sellect)

Note that the gradings vary from class to class from Ungraded/disqulified, sufficient, good to the ones mentioned above

All shows are important but entries may vary in size due to many many factors!

There are a-few little details I have left out but that is it in the main.

Thanks tingieandtails and apoAmarni for your replies. :)

To:tingieandtails,
Yes, i totally agree with you!
For me, it is important to find a dog with good working ethic and strong in protection. Beauty is actually a + and not a must.
I am not planning to be showing the dog or anything.

To: apoAmarni,

Is it easier to receive VV or SG rating for a dog in the OG?
because when the dog has some sort of VV or SG rating from the OG, the cost of the dog increase by quiet a bit.
And I don't want to waste my money on some title with little representation of the dog quality.

Any advise on that?

To answer your question:

What grading a dog receives is always relevant to the quality of the dog from the beginning to the end of its competitive carrier.

But lets deal with your VV as opposed SG rating first; VV can only be given to a deserving pup until the maximum age of 12 months. In that category (9-12 month) the grading/rating of SG can not be awarded.

So then if the pup you have is developing to its potential and is being looked after in the proper way then the natural grading/rating transition would be for the same dog to achieve an SG grading/rating once in the 12-18month class.

To put things into perspective for you; a young dog who was SG1 (first place in his/her class) at a small show with little competition, may receive/placed SG7 at the next - larger show with stiffer competition. Some dogs may find themselves on the border-line of G (good) and SG (very good) and so this will depend on the dogs' performance on the day and the opinion of the judge that day on whether that dog receives a G or an SG grading/rating.

So if you want to judge a particular dogs quality and value (in theory) the best way would be to assess that dogs consistency over several shows in both position and grading/rating attained. If you do not know what you are looking at or for in a particular dog it would be silly to judge the dog from a result attained in a small show, with little competition. In other words. Theoretically speaking - Its better to take a dog that was SG 8 in a class of 30 competitors than to take one that was SG 2 in a class of 10 dogs.

Bare in mind that many breeders keepers, know the quality of the dog before actually presenting to same; and present the dog only a few times before the Sieger Show - that's another story all together.

In all of the above scenarios the pup who is in the right hands is at the same time being prepared for his working titles and sometime between the age 12-18months he/she may have obtained BH (obedience examination) AD (endurance test) which will further add to the value of the dog. As well as HD/ED results.
