GSDPACK

OK I am in need of help from EXPERIENCED trackers.

What I know I know because I learned by a trail and well screwing up. (not calling it error because it would be a lie).

I need an advice of how it looks at the national level in tracking by FH1, even FH2.
I have an FH1 male.. he is a tracking mashine, he will track anything, everything in a rain even through sprincles if they come on while in the middle of the track. HE will do ditches, roads, he will even track with his feet full of stickers (he will stop after a while and lets me know it is time to clean his feet) I will do and he puts his nose down and keeps going. I was told he is a fine tracker (by couple of judges) and I should work on getting him readdy for higher level.. well these are the questions

How in the hell do I do that? what are the hints I should know? The precise work? he will mark, streight, he will indicate nicely but what is the precice position? I tried to find some videos, please somebody point me the right direction? I need to talk to somebody, or have somebody look at my dog to help me.. all he knows and all he screw up is my doing. I am done with ideas and I need a help of somebody who is good at this even trialed and competed in higer level and placed nicely. Not barrely passed. He got 87 in his FH1, did not indicate one article.. loked at it, sniffed it and gave me the "finger" he wanted to piss on a rock an I had to debate with him, but he kept going and he circled one corner and he did false indication (he does that sometimes when he needs a break. he lost those points there.

Otherwise, never left the track, is extremely methodical and focused with the same pace from the begining to the end.

If you are reasonably close to Pittsburgh, PA, I would recommend a private session(s) with Dean Calderon.  Internet "hints" cannot possibly substitute for "on the field" , real time evaluations and training programs.

Please send a PM for more information.

Try to contact Al Govednik. Probably one of the best tracking competitors in US, as well as current president of AWDF, I believe. His brother, I think it is his brother, who goes by the nickname habanero on this board could possibly help you get in touch with him.

Also, Gene England in Kentucky is a hell of a tracking trainer, although he is more famous for his table training work.

Adi,

You are kidding, right?  Al Govednik has FAILED tracking as many times as he has passed.  What makes him an expert?  Nobody applies to go to the World Tracking Championship, that's why he goes.  He's a joke as a tracking trainer and a judge.  He built himself up to be this big time tracking guru and has done nothing to back it up!  For example, he made a fool of himself at the 2007 AWDF in St. Louis!  Anybody who saw his obedience, or lack thereof, will attest to that!  My advice is to seek out Gene England.

Al and and Gene are good friends, about the same in tracking.

Best thing to do is get a good tracking dog or just get a good dog
period.
