I read in the fall that there would be a pumpkin shortage this year, but didn't realize how bad it would be. There is no canned pumpkin on the shelves here. I don't know about other areas of the country but you can't get it here. I know some, including myself, keep some on hand for digestive/stool issues and just wanted to let you know, if you find some, stock up.

I don't use canned pumpkin, but I do know it's not on the shelves in Pa since about Oct 2009. What's happening in PA is prolly happening across the country too in regard to farmers. This isn't about lack of rain, it's about useing the food supplies for ethanol. They say about 94% of all pumpkin was canned for home cooking use. If the farmer doesn't process and can their own pumpkins and sell locally .. their corporate buyers resell to the highest bidder and in the pumpkin case it's producers of ethanol and/or Viagra.
There's a group of farmers I know that got together last Dec when all the farms were confronted for this years yields, and they will be processing and canning pumpkins for PA homes. Their dropping all sales to corporations. You people need to support your local farmers markets this year bigtime ... or this kinda stuff is gonna happen to alot of our home grown produce.
All farmers are under attack believe it or not, the government wants corporate control of all yields, fields and production. I know this I'm a farmer. They even threaten eminent domain if you don't cooperate ... I'm gonna loose the farm one day for not cooperating. They'll have to kill me first be it known, because I'm not handing over something that's been in my family for over 200 years and whole allodial titled. As far as I'm concerned my 12 year old already owns it. :o) ~
We're all phucked. LOL

Seriously - how is pumpkin used to make Viagra?
I'm glad I planted some this year and it's already sprouted the second set of leaves.

I looked for canned pumpkin this weekend and it is nowhere to be found in the chain stores but I did find it at a small market store and stocked up. If you want some, try the smaller stores.
