I have 2 Gsd's Mum and Son
Mum Tilly is 8 now and Son Bailey is 4.
The problem I have is with Tilly, she doesn't particulary like other dogs especially small ones so she stays on lead if other dogs are about.
sometimes tho we might bump into one of her offspring, she can spot them from quite a distance! when we get close she goes Ballistic, wanting to literally rip them to bits, it's flipping scary, luckily she is ball motivated so when she starts to kick off we just give her a ball and she wont let go of it for anyone so therefore wont bite.but more often than not we will just change direction whenever we see them.
I have 3 dogs in all the othe one is a GSD X Newffie called Shady she is 18 months old. usually I or my daughter will take Tilly out first come home and take the other 2 and visa versa. on several occasions Tilly has been in the park with my daughter and I have gone with the other 2 to meet them. But Tilly will just race up to Bailey and start a huge fight with him, I mean a scary up on the hind legs stand up fight, Bailey used to cower but now he's 4 he will fight back and this enrages her more. 10 minutes or so later she is fine again and we can all walk around the park peacfully. if we take all 3 out together she is fine. apart from this she is an angel and butter wouldn't melt in her mouth lol! Any Ideas anyone as to whats up with her???? she has been this way for the past 3 or 4 years.

Hi Kazz sorry I dont have an answer for you but does she act like this off the lead perhaps she finds the other dogs a threat when on lead perhaps with her getting older she is just trying to show she is still the boss My old girl is 11 past and she still has a go at the rest of the dogs now and again I think she knows she is getting to old now to be top dog and this is why she does this all my other dogs respect her so dont bother with her they just turn away good luck with your dogs

What has been your reaction?

if we bump into any of her siblings we either change direction to avoid them or give her a ball to stop her biting them but she still gets very aggressive, when it happened several times with Bailey, we now just avoid the situation altogether.

You have to take control. Avoiding the situation won't help. It sounds to me like she thinks, or knows, she's in control and is taking full advantage. She needs corrected.

thanks GSDtravels.
so do you reckon, Tilly thinks she is pack leader and says what goes.
like, in other words I am lower in the pack than her?

I don't know, but it seems she thinks she's in control, at least when you're not in the house. What type of correction do you use, when you correct? How responsive is she to correction? What type of training have you done so far?

When you say an "up on the hind legs" fight.... is anyone getting injured in these scuffles? Or is it all open-mouthed, lots of growling and snarling and no one actually biting down?
It almost sounds like a really rough dominance-settling greeting. Usually there's a lot of noise and body language and someone ends up cowed and someone ends up on top, then everyone freezes for a second, then fight over and playing resumes.

Drake would like to be in control but that's why I don't give him an inch anymore. I don't even let him mark while we walk on the street. In the woods, every tree is fair game. I've had recent dog aggression issues so I never let him think he has the upper hand (paw, LOL).
