 Hi,

I was considering buying this dog but a trainer friend of mine said some rather harsh things about her structure and bloodlines.  Can you please tell me what you think of this dogs pedigree and structure. I thought she was a very nice dog and I was quite excited at the possibility of purchasing her.  The dog would be heavily active in SAR and would need to be very active and able to endure a great amount of exercise. The dog would also be used in sport work.

I think she is a very nice young female she has alot more filling out to do so if you like her and think she will do want you want buy her .Don't worry want others think about her.

I like her bloodlines but she has no front whatsoever, and not a lot of bone. Personally I like to see lots of Fero, and that's what she's got, but maybe your trainer friend hates Fero. That's a common attitude, but I don't know why...how is her nerve? She gets Fero through Troll on one side so that should be fine, but how about the other half? I don't know most of those dogs.

Dont buy her, she is overprized. Has soft pastern, a weak chest and a very steep upper arm. This will not correct itself by filling out more. Also, if you want to do SAR you need a "green" dog, better a pup. Most groups will not accept dogs that have done bitework before. However, I like her expression and she looks very agile.

The grandmother is a sister to Falk von den Wolfen, who goes back to  Don vom Rolandsteich (DDR lines.)  I agree about the conformation faults, though. She's very upright in the front end.

I guess I have a lot to learn....

He said something about weak hips, roached back and weak upper arm.

He's not a fan of Fero, but aside from that he just didn't like the combination of dogs in her pedigree. He too thought she was over-priced.

I don't know, their is something about this bitch that I really like. I can't put my finger on it either. Maybe it's her expression.

In retrospect, I don't think I'll be buying her. For that price, I could buy a really good dog from here in North America.
It's probably not wise to buy a dog sight-un-seen from overseas, anyways. I jumped the gun a little and got too excited. I just really like her I suppose.....

Thanks for the comments.

A dog is worth what someone wants to pay for it. I have seen much worse for $3000. Especially a dog nearly titled. Maybe tell them you'll pay the $3k if they go ahead and get her IPO1. Just a thought. While I agree she is too upright....I'm not sure about the soft pastern. I'd want to see more pics or see the dog in person before condemning her too much more.

You want a dog for SAR, and I have serious doubts that her structure is going to negatively impact her in that regard. Check w/your SAR group to see about what Elkoorr mentioned about bitework; I was unable to do SAR w/my male b/c of his PP training. Many groups are becoming more logical and allowing dogs who've had bitework, but do your homework nonetheless.

Bottom line is if YOU like her, then buy her. Take opinions and advice for what they are, but at the end of the day, do what makes YOU happy.

Be very careful with ANY sight unseen transaction. Having said that, I got a phenomenal import bitch sight unseen....although I had excellent contacts find her for me. I will say I paid a hell of a lot more than $3000usd however.

Jenni's right....your attraction to her counts for a lot. Connection is important.

I like her expression as well--very alert and intense.

Her back/topline looks fine to me, though she has a steep croup; she's not very filled out (age somewhat, but not entirely) and is very short-coated (out of coat). I don't know how one could say she has weak pasterns from that picture... Her shoulder is a bit upright, but for SAR work that's unlikely to have much impact. I think there's video of her on their site, iirc.

Jenni has a good suggestion--see if they'll put the IPO1 on her for the same price. Or find out why they're selling her without the title (training problem?).

You have said that your intent with her is to do SAR. I respect that. Will she be spayed? If  not do you think that just maybe if she turns out to be that awesome SAR dog, you may want to reproduce her ability? If that is a possibilty,  than there are other questions you should be considering before you buy her?  JMO
