I Have a high drive, super ball drive, 9 mo. old, GSD male that is 50% West Germ. W/L and 50% West Germ. S/L.  Pedigree shows all having Sch 1 or higher.

The person at the club said there was no need in me bringing my dog because Showlines NEVER make it

My question to all of you is if that is true!  Why are the showlines on the pedigrees titled.

I must really be confused -

Any club contact that would make that assessment with a call without seeing the dog you probably would not want to be in the club in the first place...

Which club was it?

As a general rule, working a showline takes ... well, work and training that takes time.  Some people I guess don't want to be bothered, which isn't right but there you are.

As for the titles on the showlines in the ped, you need to keep in mind what's called 'Midnight trials' which is basically ... bought titles.  The dogs couldn't actually do a lick of genuine work but the right whispers went to the right ears and money smoothed the way.

Good rule of thumb is unless you see the dogs in your pedigree work, either in person or on video ... don't assume their title is worth the paper it's printed on.

Aww Dont be discouraged. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and that was the trainers opinion. There are MAAAAANY Showline gsds with titles. Some will sit and argue that a showline cant work like a working dog and some will argue that they can. Im sure some showlines can excel in working some cant. Just like a working line not every working line dog excels in working. IMHO a well breed/ trained healthty GSD whether it be working show or both will complete a job correctly as asked. I mean you may have some show breds that work better than some work breds. I have been reading and noticing that alot of people are bashing showlines without even giving them a chance. Maybe try to find you another local club or maybe another sport.

Keep your head up Im sure you have a good one on your hands! Love your dog unconditional, learn from your dog as he learns from you!

What club was this?

Both Bob M and FHTracker make excellent points; it's ridiculous of someone to say what they said to you without seeing your dog.  Every dog is different.  I've seen showlines that are definitely weak, and I've seen showlines that could outperform a lot of workingline dogs.  Blanket statements show nothing but ignorance.

I'm thinking that club is limited in its training abilities and if your dog isn't a bounce-off-the-walls-insane-crate-kept dog, they don't know how to actually train it.

Some clubs like working dogs you can not change that and truthfully if this people think you can't be succesful with your dog, you will not be because they will not work it with heart in it. Find different club...

Don´t listen to him and enjoy working your dog - that´s the best way to show him he is wrong.
We just had a trial at our club and there was a showline female that impressed me a lot - Delilah z Eurosportu - she got 98 for obedience and 91 for protection / without searching two blinds/.This girl has great willingness to work, high drives, toughness. I own and breed only working lines but I wouldn´t mind to have this girl. She has it all.I also saw her litter brother work - a real dog that can work the street as a dual k9.Here is a link to the pedigree http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/598541.html , here are videos of him http://www.eurosportk9.com/puppytraining_grads.asp
Sitasmom had a litter from Zamb Vlady-Sal ,Zamb is a litter brother to mom of Delilah and Darthanian.Zamb is a police k9 here in Slovakia.

He's also half workingline, did they forget that part?

They don't care, if it is not working line, some people just don't care for those dogs.. you can not force people to like something. If they don't like the dog (even without seing it) I would not go back to those people and just find another club. We can talk about it all day long, we can bitch, cry or we can take the dog, train it someplace else and do right by it!

GSDPACK is right.  It does suck that it happened, though.  Are there other clubs in your area?
