According to Oli, he added the "report abusive" function so that obnoxious threads could be brought to his attention, and he in turn determines whether or not it should be deleted:

You now have the ability to flag individual posts or whole threads as abusive.

There is now a small red link besides every post. This will allow me to get a better overview of obnoxious posts (I really don't want to read everything that is written here )

I won't monitor the lists 24/7 but it should result in a much more speedier response to abusive posters..

Regards
Oli

I will probably be using the number of complaints as an indicator.   Meaning that if only one person has reported a post, there is a likelyhood that ony that person finds it abusive.  The more that complain the bigger chances of removal

So there we have it, bang goes all the conspiracy theories, OLI decides, not anyone here. Thanks Sue for reposting OLI'S , as the site owner, wishes. AMEN.

Oli did have good intentions. And it could have worked properly. But do you really think that Oil knows if one person hit the button the number of required times, or if that number of different peoplehit it? No way to tell. There have been too many threads containing really good GSD material that has been deleted compared to the number of really stupid, ignorant, and off the wall non gsd threads that stay. Honestly, do you think all the stupid videos should stay? Maybe instead of us ignoring those, we should hit the abuse button. Lets try it and see if they get deleted or not.. Just a thought... So the OP doesn't tell us anything we didn't know before. That being Oli owns this forum and he implimented the abusive button. That it is deleted after so many tags. That Oli doesn't read all the threads, that he just sees the ones tagged and they get deleted. Read the orignial post carefully, It doesn't prove anything new. It doesn't validate anything....JMO........

Are you serious?  Of course the report comes from your user name.  No way to tell?  Of course list managers can always see who sends mail on their lists.  Oli would have to have this set up very strangely for it to be otherwise.

It's all there very clearly spelled out, whether you like it or not nonacona, Oli is the one who decides what stays and what goes.  Apparently Oli is the one that has been deleting all your threads.

Geesh give the guy some credit that he can decide for himself as to what to keep and not. I belong to a thread that allows our group to see ip addresses and the likes. Im sure he can do the same. If the post is important enough, repost it

Yes he does decide, however he said  doesn't read it, just goes by how many tags a post has.  So once again, I will say, it could be one person hitting the button upteen billion times or upteen billion different ones hitting it one time. He doesn't know he just deletes. Ok, you say give him credit... Don't you think after so many deletes of the same person's threads, posts or replies, he would send that person a personal meassge with some type of warning, asking him to stop? I haven't recieved a message from him.. Has anyone else who's post, replies, or threads being deleted get one?

Don't be so narrow minded and think about it.. JMO.....

"Don't you think after so many deletes of the same person's threads, posts or replies, he would send that person a personal meassge with some type of warning, asking him to stop?"

Oh, jiminy christmas (as my Aunt Betty would say), buy a clue already:  the "so many deletes of the same person's threads, posts or replies" IS quite the personal message telling you to stop!

He said he doesn't read ALL the threads.  He said he would use the number of complaints as an indicator, but would use his own discretion as to which threads to delete and why.   Since Oli never has sent anyone any kind of "warning" it is not logical to expect him to start doing so now simply because  it is your threads that are being deleted.

I have had threads deleted, so have other people.  The difference is you don't see us blowing a gasket over it,  or blaming other people for our threads being deleted.   If this thread gets deleted, you won't see me starting it back up again over and over, screaming in large colorful letters about someone deleting my thread.  It's called beating a dead horse and tantrums are childish and pointless.

When you hear hoofprints it's usually horses not zebras.  Conspiracy theories might be great fun for the imagination, but logic and Oli's own words dictate a more mundane answer here.
