prasac

my dog is almost 6.5 yrs old and has recently developed this problem. His nose starts to bleed the everytime I feed him meat. The very next day his nose starts bleeding profusely. The last time I gave him Revici tabs & it stopped. Just last night I feed him meat again and today his nose started bleeding again. Has anyone has had the same kind of problem with their dog? What have you done to stop it? Is it some kind of infection or internal problem?

I consulted my vet before giving him the tabs and he is out of station at the moment so I cant take him to any other vet as I dont trust them. Any suggestions?

Hi,

Dont know about the tablet you are giving but the tick disease Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever will cause nose bleeds. I hope you find out whats causing this and your dog is ok..

There are several things that can cause this, I have had this happen to my GSD's over the years.  One had nasal cancer.  Another cause can  pulmonary hemorrhaging.  My dogs both had the canine influenza a few years ago and bled through the nose.  I had a male GSD that had a tumor in his nose and was terminal, he bled for a few months from his nose, some days worse than others.  I had him to specialists and there was no treatment at the time.    You need to see a vet right away and I would seek several opinions.

Hodie would be a good one to respond to this.  What other symptoms does your dog have?  Lethargy, cough, loss of appetite, etc?

Prasac I think is not in the United States but I do not remember what country you are in Prasac (please tell us). Slamdunc is correct about nasal cancer, but it is also possible that there is something else systemically going on, or a fungal infection or whatever. I do not believe there is much to the fact that if the dog eats meat his nose bleeds, but rather it may have to do with chance, or with the fact that chewing aggravates the situation.

This is potentially a very serious problem and you must take your dog to a good veterinarian immediately to have a look inside the nose, check blood work etc. If you can provide more information, we may have more ideas. But this is not something to waste time on here. Take the dog to a good vet.

after reading your posts, i researched and came to know that the possibility of canince influenza is less as the symptoms dont show excessive nose bleeding as in my case. i also forgot to add that the blood also had a fluid like thing thrown out during sneezing. i read about Pulmonary hemorrhage and only one matched.

however, thanks for the heads up. I am taking him to the doc first thing in the tomorrow morning.

This is not canine influenza. There is something else going on Prasac. I hope you will take the dog to the vet in the morning.

Before you go through the expense of checking for cancer (about $600.00 for the test)....what types of medication is your dog on? I can't remember the name ours was on but it caused her blood pressure to go to high. My wife called me home from work one night because she had put our GSD in the bathroom and she said it looked like kill floor in a slaughter house. The medicine she was on was to help control her bladder because she had leakage due to being spayed. I know your dog isn't spayed (you called your pup a "his") but it could be due to some type of medicine. Take him to the vet and get him checked out.
