I'm not a breeder but these are just my ideas, and I would be concerned about the remaining pups. I also would not breed her again. Make sure the pups all stay warm and get a heatlamp if you have to. It is a genetic problem with some dogs, abnormal maternal instincts.

It is usually thought that when a dog eats her puppy it is because she knew something was wrong with it, and that it's chances for survival were bleak. Or possibly that she felt she had more than she could nutritionally keep up with.
What food do you feed her?
I don't know your dog or your child, but this behavior doesnt mean that she is any more dangerous to him or the rest of your family it is not an aggression issue.

dogs will do that if there is something wrong with the puppy. I have never had them eat them but I have had them push the ones off to the side if something was wrong with them.

She probably felt there´s something wrong with the puppy.
