Looks like a Shilo, acts like a Shilo, as far as I'm concerned it IS a Shilo. A labradoodle's a labdradoodle, regardless of who bred it.

I've got no respect for Tina because she feels the need to decry people on her website. Hall of Shame and all that other bullcrap. Reeks of someone who is emotionally insecure, needy, and possibly unstable.

I don't have an opinion on Shilos as a whole, but I think Tina is the worst thing that ever happened to the breed's developement, even if it is her brainchild. The way sh attacks, rather than supports other breeders producing the same thing? Pathetic.

Back to the labradoodle analogy: Funny, but the labradoodle people work TOGETHER! to promote their breed. And, wow, they're successful. Regardless of what you think about labdradoodles, they definately have a sound following and are a breed known to be good for assistance work.

As for "real Shilos"... It's a bloody DOG; it's not a product that can be patented, and owned only by the "original" creator. If someone else uses the same mix and gets the same results, so what?

The GSD has sibling breeds in the Kunming Dog [China], the Kuhhund, Altdeutscher Schaeferhund, a russian breed that looks spot-on to a GSD but isn't (can't remember the name)... I don't see the SV running around trying to extinguish these "fake" German Shepherds like a religious zealot with nothing better to do.

"these are not GSDs, these are not GSDs," and at the same time say over and over and over again that you're "breeding the old time GSDs I knew as a child."

Keith, Tess, I've always wondered about this myself.

Maybe she just wasn't told the difference between a german herding dog and a specific German Shepherd? Who knows. Ignorance or hypocracy I fear. Take your pick.

Except, I can respect her, she's not evil or anything, LOL Her POV is driving her in a different direction, is all. Maybe it started out one way, right or wrong, but it seems like she wants it to end right, no matter what. I have no doubt she will succeed in naming her breedings as a new breed, she certainly has the will. And buyers.

The "breed" will never be AKC recognized, because Tina wants to control that money-flow.

by michael49 on 04 May 2010 - 15:05

Beetree, you are exactly right, when the dollar amount is right, akc will accept her breed with open arms.

by beetree on 04 May 2010 - 15:05

Oh, I must not have understood correctly... I thought that was one of her goals? What other body can give legitimacy?

but how in two decades have they only managed to compile a little over 500 dogs with hips numbers and less than 300 with elbow numbers?? are they doing them at a staggering rate of 25 a year??

by michael49 on 04 May 2010 - 16:05

Mystere, I have to disagree with you here, akc will at some point want the money, and the more breeders the more money.I don't think Tina will maintain that control in the end, what would prevent akc from accepting them into the registry.

Someone call the drama police.

Michael49,

I see you are right in the middle of more drama, a public apology would be nice, drama man.

SP, to be fair, I have raised threads in error, it happens when someone posts while OLI supposedly is doing the delete. If you have the screen open on your computer when that happens, it will ask for a new topic, and if you give it one, voila, you have started a new thread, inadvertently. It does happen, I have done it a few times!
