Lol. A shadow would have made it looked 2-D (he, he, he)

I see what you are saying, but what they could have been trying to disguise if that was the purpose of photoshop? Any ideas? Maybe a cluttered background? The dog doesn't seem to be altered in anyway.

White on the paws, light mask, poor pigment.

Topline.
This particular ad, it could've been as simple as removing a cluttered background, but almost every dog on here has it's topline smoothed out.

It was definitely shopped to make the background better; the same blade pattern appears over and over and over. But...seems to me it would have been easier to just take a new photo!

Background has different perspective than dog - biggest give-away.
If you don't alter the dog to hide faults or otherwise make it look better, I see no issue in de-cluttering the background. If I have to take photos on my own, it's enough of a challenge to stack the dog - and liven him up to get a good expression without having him move - and get a great background at the same time.
Not a multi-tasker, I guess!

Maybe they are using a picture of a dog that does not belong to them?!? Very strange display to cover-up all the background using photoshop.

I knwo a guy whom did this on his stud- to simply change the background to have him walking on water.
it is what it is. I would ask for more photos and call it a day. i dont think that really throuws up to many flags until you are given the reason from the poster.
