shallow sockets, and the femur heads are not seated enough to pass.  I don't think they are horrible, but I don't think they will pass OFA.

Thanks! Vet said they weren't really bad, but said "OFA will really knock the points on this one". Didn't know whether to send them off or not. I was leaning toward not, so thanks for your opinion.

Even though the dog probably wont pass, if you have the extra money I would send them in. Why? Because in the hip pool, it helps when researching dogs from these same lines. I used to be of the mind that if my own dog was clear then all was well. But now Im more of the mind that if most or all of the entire litter is free, thats how I should make my decisions. When we only send in dogs that will pass, it doesnt give us a true picture of what the dogs are actually producing. This is of course jmo.

My opinion is that these hips will not pass OFA. I agree with Bhaugh about the stats and sending them in anyway. This dog may never show symptoms until older but certanly should not be bred.

You might get a fair, but maybe not. If I were you, I would start this dog on joint supplements now - glucosamine and chondroitin. You can get treats and vitamins with these nutraceuticals in them. If he's showing no signs of pain now, you probably don't need to add pill supplements yet.

If you can afford to, send the X-rays in to OFA. Then you'll get a expert opinion and it will get included in their database so others can consider it in their research. And don't breed your dog.

If they come out not passing, the OFA will not add them to the visible database unless you ask them to. Do not sign the line in the box in the middle of the form.
