On Tuesday there was a horrible accident in the Gulf of Mexico. It has been on the national news all week. All week they were worried about the oil spilling out from the rig that now sunk. Just today, the wind starting blowing in from the south which is to us, being located approximately 45 miles from the gulf. A strong smell of oil can be recognized in the air. I was out most of the day and started smelling it around 3pm central time. I have a tickle in my throat and a burning in my nose, not to mention that upset feeling in my stomach, I just realized what it is. Now here's the problem.... Just think about the poor animals that live outdoors. Thank God I have indoor kennels to keep them protected from the smell. This is expected to go on for several days. The actual oil is supposed to reach the coast by tomorrow during the day. The future doesn't look promising as industery here is alot of seafood that is pulled out of the gulf. It has already been mentioned that the gulf could end up being a black sea area. That is just terrible. Hope this blows over quickly, but the sealife may take years to regenerate itself. Talk about crazy....whats next?

It's amazing how far the wind can carry things.I remember when I was living at a horse place in IL that there was red dirt on my truck.The only place ai have seen red dirt like that is out here in AZ and other parts of the West.Then later that night I saw on the news that strong winds from NM were blowing dirt all the way out to IL!!! So I can see how the smell of oil is coming your way. Hmmm wondering if it is coming this way.I have had some bad itchy eyes and sinus troubles. There is something in the air. I hope that the animals are ok.They are able to smell things better then us and are effected more.A friend that had birds couldn't clean with cleaning stuff cause it would kill them.I can imaging that oil would have quite an effect on them as well as others.Hope all goes well.

Today begins the nightmare for the wildlife in Louisianna. The oil is coming ashore as I write. What a shame!!!

This and the terrible accident at the Upper Branch mine in WVA are just 2 reasons I promote clean energy. I really do not want to start a scream fest over the politics. I just feel that the danger to life, human and animal, and the environmental cost of fossil fuels make it imperative to begin the turn to safe CLEAN energy. It will not happen over night, we may never completely replace the need for fossil fuels, but there is a better answer. When I hear " Drill baby drill, or Dig baby dig," I wanna scream my head off. Praying for the families of Upper Branch, and the families of those who died on that platform. I also will pray for the people of the gulf. May the good one minimize the damage done.

It is a calamity. And people should realize they are responsible, not nature or God. As we build and exploit resources that depend on human management, there will always be that certainty that eventually it will all go wrong. Bank on it. IMO
