Need an opinion on this x-ray.  4 months old male GSD.  I know they don't look good but I would like to know if the positioning could have something to do with it.

The positioning is horrible. It looks like the pup was laying on the left side and they just pulled the legs out to xray. I would have the vet redo them. Positioning can make a world of difference in how the xray looks.

I do not feel there is enough femor head in the socket, in otherwords;  the socket and head are not a good enough fit;  I say mild to moderate dysplasica due to lack of depth of socket.  The left of course much worse than the right;  however, neither are very good.

Those xrays need to be redone without question. That dog is very twisted and rolled. I would not make a decision on that due to #1, he's only 4 months and # 2, he is twisted.

I still wonder if the positioning could have made a difference?

Hips have to be "rolled outward" before the legs are stretched - looks like the legs have only been stretched to the max - hope they didn't damage the hock - the left and right tags are missing - looks like the vet didn't know what he/she was doing! I believe this x-ray wouldn't be accepted by WUSV.
Positioning makes all the difference!!

MOLLY where are you????

by SitasMom on 29 April 2010 - 03:04

4 months old, why are you doing this so young? is this puppy exhibiting signs of pain?

the reliability was 89.6% at 3-6 months

inbetween the poor positioning and the extra young age, I'd hate to venture a guess.

Make the vet redo the x-ray with correct positioning...if necessary make a copy of one of dogladyj's and take it with you...her's is about the best I've seen for positioning.  See her's here...

This is a horrible job and the vet should be ashamed.  Copy these comments from me and the others and present them to the vet as well.  I hate to guess on these but I don't know that it's just the positioning that's bad...these hips look pretty sad to me.   This is a shameful excuse for a professional x-ray.

They look pretty awful:( If my puppy's looked that bad, I would want a second set just to be sure.
If you do get them redone, please let us know.
