Iceland has been chosen as the cleanest country in the world!

Congratulations, Oli!
I may come and visit some day, but I'll wait until that pesky volcano stops erupting!

That was an interesting article. How about them 3 legged deer in the Korean peninsula!? LOL

I'll bet they were selected prior to the volcano.

Ninja, I could be wrong but I think there are more Icelandic people living outside of Iceland, than in it. Could have something to do with it. Also, don't they have geothermal heat, that would help in the ratings. They said US could up its rating with Natural Gas and Nuclear Energy. Can't say that would be my solution. I'm not a big fan of LNG plants popping up everywhere. And that is exactly what they want to do. Kicked their butts out of LI Sound, for now. We still need to keep a vigilant look-out so they don't try to come back.

I find the article meaningless and misleading.
Sierra Leone, I wonder why?
It's all about perspective, economics, population, politics, and geography.
Iceland has it's blessings, and it's curses as well.
There was a very enlightening program on PBS last night I wish everyone could have seen, about the environment and what we do to it.
About what is coming.
Now lets watch and see what happens in the Gulf of Mexico.
Moons.

Hi Beetree,
I believe you are correct about Iceland's geothermal heat. I think most of the island is heated that way.
They are also trying to ban those LNG boats from entering Boston Harbor. I believe those tankers dock within a 1000' of the harbor.
It's a shame we have to live in fear of terrorists.

I am always suspicious of these type of statistics. I always want to know how these indices are calculated. Are they based on average of various subsets of categories in each countries? Averages are quite unreliable without other statistics to account for weightings. You can visit partsof a country which are to my mind very clean - e.g. the Atlas mountains in Morocco, breath fresh air and see no litter, cars, roads etc for hundreds of miles, and then visit Marrakesh in Morocco (or other cities) and see quite a different view simply because of the more commercial and developed side of this part of the country.
