Hi All, I am from Hyderabad in India and have got a great attachment towards GSD. I have spent 800$ and got a male GSD with in my city but its suffering from some viral infection from day 1 and I am planning to return it and get back the amount. However if some one can help me in finding a healthy pups from a good bloodline then I can kick start my programme. If any of the big breeders are willing to help me out in this by giving me a pair of breedable pups under any agreement of mutual interest(Which would also help them in expanding their bloodlines in hyderabad) then I shall be indebted through out my life. Regards, Prabhu Kumar

Hey Prabhu, I also had a very similar bad experience with an Indian Breeder. Actually the stock available in India is absolutely third class. Most of the people who show dogs and the so called High Profile breeders in India including Noorie and the gang do nothing to improve the breed they just go to ULM or Germany elsewhere and get a progeny maybe a cheap one and then breed to absolutely crappy indian homebred bitches. Some of the so called famous dogs down South India have given offsprings which have had siezure problems and other genetic problems. Remember there is still no qualified means of detecting and labelling Hip Dysplasia in India which is the most common problem of this breed. If you could spend 800 $ in India I'm sure you can spend few more dollars and import a healthy pup yourself from Germany

Sherry, So you say Noori has imported third class dogs Quando Nordlandzwinger (v10 in germany) Fedor vom Steinway-Park (V17 in germany and VA7 in US) Fedor's daughter Mellie von Batu placed V6 in germany Rocky Haus Tepferd All these are third class dogs according to you. Please show me what you have I want to buy one dog from you if they are better than those mentioned above SV judges are applauding the stokc in India and people like you say India has no good dogs. With people like you around the Indian GSD feild is surely going places and new enthusiasts are getting encouraged

Thax a lot for your reply. If not a help I am atleast left with a satisfaction that there is some one who is willing to listen to my voice. Just need to wait for some one to help me now.

Thax a million for your response. I am happy that some one is there to listen. Was just curious to know process and cost of importing a pup from germany. To be more honest, I am a layman in this business and not sure of any procedures of importing a dog from germany and how to check the bloodlines. How much do I need to invest and if there is any discount available or one who can help me in starting the breeding programme on a partner ship basis. Because 2 pups for a big breeder will not matter much but that would be a great thing for me and moreover the breeder will be able to expand his business in my city and will have a pair of dogs for breeding which will be living in a lovely small family.

Wow. I thought dogs should wear muzzles till I seen this thread! For real - tell that poor guy he'd be better off just not breeding dogs period. No big-kennel is going to give dogs, for free, to a person who is not going to work, title, or show them. Honest truth. jenni

Prabhu, Pedigreed dogs do not come of the shelf. Nobody gives off dogs free to a novice. If you are serious about breeding you need to invest invest and invest for the first few years. Buy a bitch that has winners in the pedigree and then learn from the breeders who are willing to help. NOTHING GOOD COMES FREE!!!!!

Hi Prabhu: A breeder is a torch bearer of the breed along with the performance judges, and the breed judges. Therefore, as an architect of the breed, a breeder should have a fairly comprehensive idea about the blue print of his breeding program. If a breeder has no or very little knowledge of the breed, no or very little knowledge of the breeding stock, then that breeder should not be breeding dogs of a particular breed. It takes one a number of years to aquire the credentials to be a breeder, yet it is still a very humbling task. My suggestion to you is to go and spend some more time learning about the breed from people who have done well, and then think about breeding german shepherd dogs. On a separate note, $800 would not get you a decent dog, especially if you are talking about importing one. So, you should stick with the local stock, which is not so bad incidentally. I just returned from the Patiala dog show, and the dogs, from strictly anatomy standpoint, were not bad. I even saw a very good puppy, who is still for sale but the owner was having a hard time finding a potential owner for him. May be because everybody is looking for an import dog. I know Abdullah personally, he is a friend and like a younger brother to me. I believe that he does not spare any expense and effort to get a good dog and capaign him. However, breeding is not his top priority. May be with time his priorities will change. Good luck Ajay Singh www.ajaysingh.com
